The Junior-Senior Banquet was held April 19. The theme was curled out in The Mardi Gras spirit. A prom was held alter the Banquet with the Montle Dance Band playing. On the 25th of April the Senior Class play Grandad Steps Out was presented. The Student Council was very active thls year. They sponsored many activities during the school year. Mr. Louie Lemke showed a movle and gave a talk on the care of and how to sadely handle I gun. They sold garden seeds, the money from this helped pay for pins for the members of the Student Council. The members of the Student Council are -- President -- Ruth Vernon -- Vice Presldent -- Shirley Hansen -- Secretary -- Dale Flndley -- Treasurer -- Gene Eldred -- Member at Large -- Rosle Austin -- Faculty Advisor -- Mrs. Russell. 27

School Activities First activity of the year was Inlttation. Sophomores sponsored an lnltlation dance honoring the Freshman Class who joined our high school this fall. A magazine campaign was sponsored by the Morley School on September 21, 1951. The Junior High and High School took part and competed against each other. 5305.04 was taken ln with the school receiving S109.'l2. Coleen Hay was high salesman with 547.50 and Shirley Hansen ran a close second with S4'I.00. In October the Seniors journeyed to Cedar Rapids where they proceeded to turn on the char m and break the cameras. They spent the day shopping and attended a movie. The Juniors presented Margie and the Wolf Man October 24. A capacity crowd filled the auditorium and everyone enjoyed lt. The basketball season was opened October 26 with McVllle. A pancake supper was held before the game with Aunt Jemima frying the pancakes. A Thanksgiving Dance was sponsored by the Seniors during the Thanksgiving Vacation. The day before the Thanksgiving Vacation the grade children gave an assembly program under the direction of Mrs. Russell. At Christmas time the grade children gave an assembly program under the direction of Mrs. Russell. The Mixed Chorus sang and a skating dance was performed bv the Junior High. We held a declamatory contest in high school with the following students entering in their respective classes -- Oratorical -- Carol Pulver -- and Kathleen Hay -- Dramatics -- Roxanna Ruhl and Janet Slver -- Humorous -- Ruth Vernon, Evelyn Findley, and Carol Eldred -- Radio Speaking -- Ruth Vernon, Carol Pulver, Kenneth Daub, Allen Eden, Kathleen Hay, and Charlene Holdren. Those who went on to the sectional speech contest were -- Oratorlcal -- Carol Pulver Dramatlcs -- Roxanna Ruhl -- Humorous -- Evelyn Ftndley -- Radio Speaking -- Ruth Vernon. Kenneth Daub, and Carol Pulver -- lnterpetive Reading -- Janet Greenawald and Kathleen Hay. Most oi those entering received ll ratings. On March 21 the boys sponsored a Minstrel Show under the direction of Mrs. Russell. The proceeds of which went to buy music for the two glee clubs. In the preltmtnary music contest which was held at Davenport the following people participated -- Solos -- Evelyn Flndley, Carol Pulver, Charlene Holdren, Janet Slver, Sandra Joslin, John Brokaw, Kenneth Daub, Lowell Nelson -- Girls' Sextette -- Ruth Vernon, Charlene Holdren, Carol Pulver, Evelyn Flndley, Sandra Joslin, and Harlene Tallman -- Trio -- Carol Pulver, Charlene Holdren, and Sandra Joslin. 26
