I then went on my way and had an interesting vacation with my relatives. It was getting late in the season for taking the northern 'route home, but since I had taken the southern route out, I thought it would be interesting to go home another way. However, just as I crossed the border into Colorado, it began to storm. The farther I went, the worse it got, and finally it was nearly impossible to see the road, so I stopped at the next ranch house I came to. I went to the door and knocked. I made up my mind I'd ask whoever came to the door if I could stay there at the ranch until the roads were passable. The door opened and there was Joyce Gerdes with a baby in her arms and a little boy standing beside her. I was simply stunned at finding another old schoolmate. When I had my voice under control, I asked her what she was doing way out here on a ranch. She said she had married Arlo Van Antwerp about five years ago and they had moved out here on this ranch so Arlo could raise horses. She asked me to come in and make myself at home, that they'd be glad to have me stay until the weather cleared up and meanwhile we'd have a good visit about-old friends and old times. Their little boy's nickname was Zip and the baby, girl's name was Rose Marie. Wouldn't you know they'd , give their children names like that. When six P..M. rolled around, the men came in for supper. Arlo was certainly surprised at seeing me there, and I was more than surprised to find Pete Gombert and Leonard Austin there, working for Arlo. The week I spent there was a happy one and soon I was on my merry way back home. P.S. It seems Byrdena has forgotten she was in our class. Well, anyway I haven't forgotten it. Well, it was in the spring of 1960, Betty and I decided to go to Cedar Rapids for some shopping. We were going down First Avenue when Betty spotted a large stove polish factory. This kinda brought back old memories so we stopped in. There, over the door, was a large neon sign, Bader's Stove Polish Factory, Largest In The'Wor1d. We pro- ceeded to go in when a small boy came dashing out nearly knocking us down. I said, Who runs this factory? I-Ie said, Me old man, Milton Bader, so on we went. There, sit- ting behind the desk was his wife, Byrdena Pye. Byrdena does his office work during the morning and is a dietician in the hospital during the afternoon. You know Byrdena has always had the habit of going on diets. Well, we left Byrdena and finished our shopping, and thus returning home. Well, guess this takes care of the trip of the Senior Class of 1950. , I3
