I then went on my way and had an interesting vacation with my relatives. It was getting late in the season for taking the northern 'route home, but since I had taken the southern route out, I thought it would be interesting to go home another way. However, just as I crossed the border into Colorado, it began to storm. The farther I went, the worse it got, and finally it was nearly impossible to see the road, so I stopped at the next ranch house I came to. I went to the door and knocked. I made up my mind I'd ask whoever came to the door if I could stay there at the ranch until the roads were passable. The door opened and there was Joyce Gerdes with a baby in her arms and a little boy standing beside her. I was simply stunned at finding another old schoolmate. When I had my voice under control, I asked her what she was doing way out here on a ranch. She said she had married Arlo Van Antwerp about five years ago and they had moved out here on this ranch so Arlo could raise horses. She asked me to come in and make myself at home, that they'd be glad to have me stay until the weather cleared up and meanwhile we'd have a good visit about-old friends and old times. Their little boy's nickname was Zip and the baby, girl's name was Rose Marie. Wouldn't you know they'd , give their children names like that. When six P..M. rolled around, the men came in for supper. Arlo was certainly surprised at seeing me there, and I was more than surprised to find Pete Gombert and Leonard Austin there, working for Arlo. The week I spent there was a happy one and soon I was on my merry way back home. P.S. It seems Byrdena has forgotten she was in our class. Well, anyway I haven't forgotten it. Well, it was in the spring of 1960, Betty and I decided to go to Cedar Rapids for some shopping. We were going down First Avenue when Betty spotted a large stove polish factory. This kinda brought back old memories so we stopped in. There, over the door, was a large neon sign, Bader's Stove Polish Factory, Largest In The'Wor1d. We pro- ceeded to go in when a small boy came dashing out nearly knocking us down. I said, Who runs this factory? I-Ie said, Me old man, Milton Bader, so on we went. There, sit- ting behind the desk was his wife, Byrdena Pye. Byrdena does his office work during the morning and is a dietician in the hospital during the afternoon. You know Byrdena has always had the habit of going on diets. Well, we left Byrdena and finished our shopping, and thus returning home. Well, guess this takes care of the trip of the Senior Class of 1950. , I3

Senior Class Prophecy This is the Prophecy of the Class of 1950 and takes place in the year 1960, when I decided to take a trip through the west to visit some of my relatives that I hadn't seen for years. I ...ai gone quite a distance when I decided I had better stop and have my gas tank and radiator checked. I drove into a City Service Station and Garage combined. .Tust as I came to a halt, out walked Harold Hoppe. I was very glad to see someone from home. I asked hirn if he'd heard any news from the folks from around Morley. He said that he hadn't but asked if I knew that he had married my old classmate, Wanda, and that they had two children? Of course this was all news to me since I had left Morley soon after graduation. It also seemed that Wanda still had a yearn for grocery stores and had bought one and found herself extremely busy, running a home and the store too. I walked down the street while Harold was checking my car over to see Wanda. When I walked into her store, I thought how familiar she looked standing there behind the coun- ter. She told me that she saw Betty nearly every day when she came in after groceries. Luck must have been with me because while I stood there talking to Wanda, Betty walked in. I asked her what she had been doing since she had finished school. She informed me that she had been married a few weeks after she had finished school. I asked her who she had married and she said, Can't you guess? Why, my old school day boy friend, Kenneth Austin. About that time, in walked some children. There were two boys and a girl. They started talking to Wanda and Betty, then Wanda turned to me and said, These are our children. The oldest boy and the girl are mine. The boy's name is Leonard. Cf course I wouldn't know where she got that name or the little girl's name of Imogene either, for that matter. Betty told me her little boy's name was Robert. I asked her how she happened to pick that name. She answered me by asking me if I re- membered the boy she had a crush on in the sixth and seventh grades. Bobby Guthrie, of course: It was getting late and I had to be on my way so I told my two old classmates goodbye, went back to the service station for my car and continued on my journey, hoping I would run across more of my schoolmates. I had passed through two more states on my way westward when I made- up my mind upon arriving in a certain city to attend a broadcast or two at the local broadcasting station. The first fifteen minute program passed without anything unusual happening. The second program had just be- gun when I recognized the Master of Ceremonies as being Bill Jackson. Also on the program was his wife, the former Joanne Techau, and if any of you remember Bill and some of his classroom performances, you can well imagine his program was a scream. After this program was over, I decided I'd had about all I could stand so I got up and left the broadcasting station. Just as I drove out of the parking lot, I scraped fenders with another car. I jumped out of my car ready to give the other driver a piece of my mind when lo and behold, who should be the driver of the other car but Jack Switzer. I was so happy to see him after all these years that I forgot to mention my wrinkled fender. We talked for a long time. .Tack told me that he and his wife, the former Roxy Ruhl had been making Chicago their home but were making a trip to the coast in connection with his position as the number one scout for the Chicago Cubs Baseball Team. They stopped off in Iowa and left their little girl with Roxy's parents. When you think of it, it is simply amazing who one will bump into, isn't it? 12
