Mr. Meier has won the respect and esteem of not only the Morgan State College student body, but also that of many others in the Balti- more community who regard the struggle for human rights and dignity as the crucial challenge of our times. This Oberlin-Columbia trained associate professor of history has given himself fully to worth- while causes as the Civic Interest Group, the Americans for Democra- tic Action (as a former president of the Baltimore Chapter), and the National Association for the Ad- vancement of Colored People (as a former secretary of the Newark, New Jersey Chapter). Mr. Meier has sat. ridden, walked, written, and spoken for the eause of freedom. Morganites can never forget how excellently he acquitted himself in the debate with the highly verbal Black Muslim Leader. Malcolm X. This is Au- gust Meier, the man of action! As a scholar and classroom teacher, Mr. Meier loses none of his students’ respect. His conduct in his classes, enlivened by a refresh- ing sense of humor, a stiff diet of colatteral readings, and a few agreeable idiosyncrasies, leaves his students with paradoxical feelings of annoyance but appreciation, inadequacy but inspiration, frustration but enrichment. The “buggy” professor never relents in working his students hard. The consolation comes in knowing that he works ten times harder than 6
