The Humanities Divi- sion through the course offerings of its five departments seeks to keep fresh in the minds of its students the necessity always to make the distinction in considering man's estate. In addition to the chairman and the department heads, the division has nine other ranking faculty members. Charles W. Stallings, Ed.D. Pennsylvania State College, Associate Professor of Art, is on leave of absence this year. Daniel T. Skinner, Ph.D. Harvard University, is Associate Professor of Modern Languages. Williams, who took leave of absence this year from his position as Professor of Pay- chology and Head of the Department to direct the Independent Study Program, financed by a $27,000 grant from the Ford Founda- tion's Fund for the Advancement of Education. The experimental program was designed to increase and make more effective the amount of independent study done by students, with the hope of thereby conserving faculty time. The photograph below is of the administrators, faculty, and students of Morgan's First Summer Institute for High School Teachers of Science, June 24—August 16, 1957, made possible by a grant from the National Science Foundation and directed by Dr. Thomas P.
