All have very similar beginnings and in our present educational system, all go through practically the same routine as the machine of education grinds on year after year. On a fair September day in 1956, a great many mothers took their children to the Petersburg Grammar School. Out of the list of names on the first grade we recognise only a part, for some have dropped from school in the intervening years, some have moved away, some have advanced more rapidly and have already finished High School, some have progressed more slowly and now belong to other classes. Ima Dean Dodson, Joanne Eakin, Jean Holloway, Dixie Ann Marsh, Doris Plgg, Rita Renegar, Ray Shaddy, Ada Mai Sorrells, J. C. Sorrells, Mildred Woodard, and Geraldine Scrrells, all of Petersburg, are names that are found listed in first grade registers and these names appear on our roll of graduates today. we welcomed into the class, Martha Hemphill, who joined us in the second grade, Helen Mosley, who entered in the fourth grade, and Merle and Turner Mitchell, who joined us in the seventh grade. During our second year in elementary school, the building burned and because of this emergency, the first three grades continued their studies in the basement of the Methodist Church. As we entered the fourth year, the new building was completed and we continued our studies until 1944 when we received our diplomas and left for advanced training. As we fifteen entered Morgan School, Douglas Durham and Jimmy Martin of Nashville, Tennessee Joined us. We lost several members but their places were filled the following year by Joe Keadle of Trenton, Tennessee and the junior year by Ollie Cole of Martin, Tennessee, Sammy Jcbe of Guntersville, Alabama, Ernest Parker of Columbia, Tennessee and Mack Swing of Petersburg, Tennessee. Wilson Howard joined us the last term of our junior year. In 1947, James England of Mt. Pleasant, Tennessee, Bob Benden of Ann Arbor, Michigan, Dorlene Flys of Cornersville, Tennessee, Charles Huddleston of Knoxville, Tennessee, Ellsoo Martinez of San Juan, Puerto Rico, Donald York of New York City, N. Y., Rollin MacDonald of Cleveland, Ohio and our two post graduates: Lewis Register of Jacksonville, Florida and Bill Wharton of Adameville, Alabama, joined us. High School days have been happy and busy for most of us. The larger number of students have been studying with college as their goal and they have tried to make the most of every opportunity. The class of '48 has had its trials and tribulations but we will remember these past four years as the best years of our lives. Mr. Kenneth's chapel talks have been an inspiration to us all. The faculty will never know how much we appreciate their patience and efforts in teaching us. They can be sure that we shall never forget them. As we look back over the history of the class, there is sadness in our hearts, but we realize something of what it will mean to us in the future. lasting impressions have been made and a firm foundation has been laid for mature life. May we prove worthy of our school in the days to come. 54 ' 5.- -jf,-1-fi , iw: :Tffi-2-1: ' N135-2L51 7 8.1: , 5525:--' -gSgf5'.?f,3g:g'S, I 0.1 1. ,.:,X.:f:: ,-F .
