FOOTBALL Coach Floyd Fleming's 1938 football charges gave a good account of themselves in every game, and good hard playing and true sportsmanship highlighted throughout the season. M. P. M. A., 7: M. P. I. C., 0. Outconditioned five weeks to two, our eleven neither matched the Academy team's stamina nor its scoring punch. Wright 14: M. P. I. C., 7. As close as the new conference titleholders came to a de- feat all year. -M. P. I. C., 7: Lisle 6. A final minute touchdown by De Haan and a dramatic extra point conversion by Moore gave us our first conference victory. Concordia 12: M. P. I. C., 6. A defeat but definitely not a disgrace as the Iay Cee eleven played inspired football to give the powerful Concordia team a real battle. North Park 7: M. P. I. C., 6. Another close contest in which a moth-eaten s1eeper' play netted the enemy 70 yards, a touchdown, and a game which we should have Won. Morton 13: M. P. I. C., 12. Failure to hold a 12 to 6 fourth quarter advantage cost us a chance to win a second conference victory. Spectacular 80 and 85 yard runs by Leavitt and De Haan should have won the muddy battle, but Morton scored in the- closing minutes. M. P. I. C., 14: A. C. P. E., 7. Touchdowns by Kleinz and Garness gave the Iaycee eleven a margin which the visitor's rallies were unable to overcome. 1 Wilson 6: M. P. I. C., O. Still another close game which could have gone either Way was this Thanksgiving Day finale to the 1938 football campaign.
