FOOTBALL Coach Floyd Fleming's 1938 football charges gave a good account of themselves in every game, and good hard playing and true sportsmanship highlighted throughout the season. M. P. M. A., 7: M. P. I. C., 0. Outconditioned five weeks to two, our eleven neither matched the Academy team's stamina nor its scoring punch. Wright 14: M. P. I. C., 7. A final minute touchdown by De Haan and a dramatic extra point conversion by Moore gave us our first conference victory. Concordia 12: M. P. I. C., 6. A defeat but definitely not a disgrace as the Iay Cee eleven played inspired football to give the powerful Concordia team a real battle. North Park 7: M. P. I. C., 6. Another close contest in which a moth-eaten s1eeper' play netted the enemy 70 yards, a touchdown, and a game which we should have Won. Morton 13: M. P. I. C., 12. Coach Fleming and Managers As director of Athletics at Morgan Park, Capt Fleming coaches all the athletic teams of the school. His diligent and intensive training of our athletes resulted in good playing and true sportsmanship at practice and games. The task oi managing the teams, arranging the games, and taking charge of equipment is one lacking in glory and simplicity. This year, it was efficiently handled by three men who deserve credit: lack Caine, football: Bob Ehrler, basketball, and Iohn Meyer, baseball. You've Gotta be a Football Hero -and Don Leavitt, captain of the '38 football team is just that. Voted the best athlete, Don proved his qualification by splendid playing and leadership on the gridiron, The basketball team played a difficult season by entering two tournaments and one of the hardest players was the captain, Ted Haegstedt. His consisent playing and loyalty mark- ed him as a good team-mate as Well as a leader. 8 yefffyyp 'iff' .-f' ' ' if .0 wi. l ' 1 . Afj'3f'fl Captain Leavitt and , , ' A , Captain Haegstedt l41l
