That this class also has a generous sprinkling of geniuses is proven by the fact that 17 freshmen were admitted to Beta Phi Kappa last February. Two freshmen, Helen McCumber and lune Lindholm, were elected to the offices of secretary and treasurer respectively. A Outstanding among the journalistic minded students are Greta Ohman, Edward Mcl-lie, and Robert Pierce who have earned responsible positions dn the Fortnightly staff. The po- sition of business manager of the Oracle went to Charles Watkins. One of the most out- standing members of the lune '40 Class is Earl Wesselius, pre-medical student so often referred to as Doctor. After only one semester at Iaycee, Earl was elected chairman of the Student Council. He is also a member of the board of governors for the Men's Club. lack Garness and Bill Deiters both served on this board. Many freshmen have gained prominence in the various clubs. Last semester Marjorie Lee and Robert Pierce held offices in the German Club While Helen McCumber was ap- pointed secretary of the Chemistry Club. This semester Charles Watkins has been chosen to head the Chemistry Club with Helen retaining her position as secretary. Priscilla Rice was elected secretary of the Drama Club and the Pre-medical club selected Helen Mc- Cumber as vice-president. Ruth I-lensel and Shirley Edmunds served as treasurer of the Co-ed's Club and secretary of the W.A.A. respectively during the spring semester. Athletic fame was Won by lack Garness, lack Klienz, and Clare Moore on the laycee gridiron. lack Garness was elected Captain of the team for next fall. When the basketball season came to town, fancy passing and accurate shooting Won positions for Earl Wesselius, lack Garness, and lack Mallot on the quintet. With such a successful freshman class, Morgan Park looks forward to a p9DIDY, out- standing group of sophomores next year. l20l
