As we leave Morgan Park, we know that Cap's friendship and guidance during our four years at high school has helped us more than we can realize to he better able to take our places as citizens in our democracy. Girls like Joan Keith with a potent personality and high scolastic qualities are found few and far between Joan has been in Tau Epsilon all four years is a mem ber of National Honor Society, Quill 61 Scroll, Quilpen Board of Control, Latin Club, Orchestra, and occupies every other available minute editing The Empehi News The job of senior class secretary is no small one but likable Beverly Bond is just the girl to cope with it. Beverly's activity list is long with Tau Epsilon and National Honor Society ranking high. She has been active in Sigma, Red Cross council, and Latin club and has lent her voice to both Girls Glee club and A Cappella. Holding the strings to the senior class purse is Ben Roscrow, treasurer. Summing up Ben's activities he has been twice a division room officer, is top man on the budget committee, and has belonged to A.Y.L Biology club, and National Honor Society. He has also participated in Intramural Sports. IOHN HANNAFORD IOAN KEITH DAYNE TATGE LEWIS POST enior erfionagfieri Almost holding the record for school activities while at Morgan Park is Dayne Tatge. Among her many important duties have been a Student Court judge, president of Quill and Scroll, second page editor of The Empehi News, Annual Staflr, Social committee. Red Cross council treasurer. Latin and Biology clubs, Tau Epsilon all semesters, National Honor Society, and chairman of the Senior Prom. Empehi will miss Dayne Tatge. Teachers would be happy if they had more students like Twin Lewis Post. For four years Lewis has been in Tau Epsilon and when a senior, National Honor Society. Other of Lewis' activities have been president of the Emblem club, a member of the baseball team, exterior committee, budget committee. division room officer and Executive committee. Empehi is proud of its students like John Hanna- ford. A very busy man, he was the one and only lieutenant colonel of the R. O. T. C., manager of the Stage Crew, in Tau Epsilon four semesters and vice president of the National Honor Society. a member of A.Y.L., Board of Control, Exterior committee. a fire guard, Stamp club member and a division room officer. If Joan Keith could remain at Empehi for a few more years, everyone would like it. Joan has had manv important responsibilities while attending Morgan Park and has done much work. Her biggest and most im- portant job was being editor-in-chief of The Empehi News and she did a grand job. Good luck always. Joan. vou'll do well wherever you go. ' ROC A DAN HANSON IEANNE HILBRECHT IOANNE NORTHAM DICK RUMPF une 641545 O icerri Many duties and activities had to precede gradua- tion before the members of the June 1946 class marched on to the stage to receive their diplomas. The class officers who headed and worked on the committees to carry out these activities were: Dan Hanson, presidentg Jeanne Hilbrecht, vice-presidentg Joanne Northam, sec- retaryg and Dick Rumpf, treasurer. Dan, as president appointed the committees and chairman. It was also his job to see that everything was running smoothly for the graduates. Energetic Jeanne Hilbrecht, upon being elected vice-president, automatically became chairman of the social committee. This included the planning of the senior banquet and all other social activities of the class. The duties of the secretary of the class, Joanne Northam, were to be present at all senior council meetings and to lceep a record of all the class activities. Dick Rumpf, as the treasurer of the class, handled all thc money and balanced the budget. There were many members of the class who worked on committees and so ably helped to make this graduat- ing class one that will long be remembered. BOB VOGELE ELAINE IOHNSON IOANNE NORTHAM TOM CARLINE enior emonagfied The most honored position in the student body was held this year by Bob Vogele, president of the S. A. Because of his service to the school, his scholastic record. and his winning personality, Bob well deserves his clasi- fication as an outstanding senior. Bob's hobby, cartoon- ing, has also brought him recognition along with mem- mership in Tau Epsilon, National Honor Society, the newspaper staff, and the R.O.'I'.C. Here Capt. Hartle instructs and encourages those who have shown tlltlllgll ability to be promoted from the lieginners Band, preparing them to win the many honors for which llmpehi bands are famous. He is assisted by student instructors from the Con- cert lland and Orchestra. The Junior lland, of course, is more difficult than lieginners liand, the reading of music is on a higher plane, and good tone and technique are stressed. l-Zach pupil has five practices which he may take home for use in practicing. In addition, a further means of improving his ability, each member is given the opportunity to direct the band. This developes his ear for music and gives him a knowledge of the musical scores and ar- rangements played by the group. A graduate of the Junior Hand is well on the way to becoming a good musician. age 78 eginner Z6 Band! lleginners' liand is open to any student inter- ested in learning to play a musical instrument. This is the first step toward promotion to the Concery Band of Orchestra. No previous music study, or knowledge is necessary. Captain Guy G. The Officers Club. composed of the com- missioned officers of the Morgan Parlc High School R.O.T.C., functions chiefly for the bet- terment of Empehi's R. O. T. C. unit. Thru special training prepared by the military in- structor, the officers further their knowledge of how to handle the men under them. and of the different military sciences and tactics. The officers are assigned certain duties that can be performed only by men of responsibility and trust. such as head of the fire guards, as- sembly guards etc. Their duties must be carried out to the fullest extent of their ability in order to help keep Empehi running smoothly. The Officers club is however not all worlc and no play. Each year the club sponsors a Military' Ball which is the outstanding social event of the year. Preceeding the dance, an honorary colonel or queen and her court is choosen by the cadets. and they are given top rate honors at the Ball. The 1945 Ball was held at the Continental Hotel on December 8, with the music by' Henry Brandon's orchestra. This year's Officers Club under the instruc- tors, Sgt. Forrester and Overstreet, with Lt. Col. John Hannaford and Major Thomas Car- line as staff heads, gave Empehi one of the finest Officers Clubs in years, and we sincerely hope the Officers Clubs in the future will be as good. EMALM CLA The limblem Club's purpose is to brintl lhff athletes of Morgan l'ark high school together in one club which can help the school. During the last year the Emblem club worked for the school in many ways. The club helped in the paper drive and helped at other athletic contests. One of the main activities of the lim- blem club is the promotion of intramural sports, such as baseball, volleyball, and basketball. ln order for a boy to become a member of the club he must have won a major letter in some sport and must be approved by the mem- hvrs of the Club. Lew Post became president when Max Rees who was elected president transfered schools. The other officers who ably filled their positions were Oke l'earson, vice-president: Ken Grant, secreturyg and for the spring semester liob Muele ler, president, William lflesher, vice-president: and Chuck Gleason, secretary. Mr. McGregor was the able sponsor during the last year. lt is hoped that in the future more boys will come out for school sports, win their letters, and become members of the lfmblem cluli so that the club can be enlarged and prove to be zi more usefnl service to the school. P85 fglfl QCLITL Upon his return to Morgan l'ark in January after three years in the Navy, Coach Hob Anton-- ides was greeted by more than 40 wrestlers. A great majority of the grapplers on the 15+-14' wrestling team were football players or boys who will go out for football in the fall. With the constant change in coaches at l'fm- pehi last fall, wrestling practice did not begin until after the Christmas holidays. The wrest- ling team was bolstered by many returning musclemen from last year's team. The re- turning bone crushers were Dick Wangerow, liurt Keddie, John Brown, Russell Snyder, liob Black, Sam Onayo, Malcolm Hill, Al Hoge, Bill Gill, Walter Street, Bob Snyder, Jim Clancy, lion Mirrielees, and Pleas Conway. By coming out for wrestling, the boys were able to toughen themselves in preparation for the next season's football team, and it also gave Coach Antonides an idea of the material available for football. .. l-IRST ROWV: Lang- dcnherg, 4' o n vi' a 3, W a n g e ro vs, Lenz, K in iz. R I G58 a The 1946 Morgan Park baseball team under the captaincy of Frances plummet and the management of Coach Duncan McGregor has proved its ability to come through after hu- miliating losses in all but one practice game. In Empehi's first league game against Bowen tle team showed both hitting and pitching ability. The team was composed of four veterans who played var sity last year and a well rounded stock of reserves to capably fill in the shoes of last years team The first string wa composed of pltchers Miller Andrews Thompson and Mueller the latter two also had regular fielding positions at center and second respectively The second part of the bar tery was Wangerow who was hitting at a terrific clip The rest of the infield was Strickland at first base Saunders filling in at second and third and Plummer at short stop The out field situation was a little more complicated Ken Sundland had left field well in hand as did Danny Thompson in center when he s not pitching The right held spot was a toss up be The teams league outlook was good With the experi ence of practice games behind them and the veterans back to plug up any holes that were liable to appear Empehi 1946 baseball team made a good name for itself il., If ' f fx , uf N . ll' f llq' x I N 1 ' x . f ll ,-inet, , ,Q-,, 1 1 2.27 . . i T 0 H 9 va tween Hal Fidler, Jack Morgan, Ray Zoelliclc and Bob Miller.
