TUBBS Being principal of a high school takes more than executive ability, it re- quires friendliness, perseverance, sincerity, helpfulness and a host of other traits-all of which Dr. Eston V. Tubbs, the principal of Morgan Park high school, possesses. He has the admiration and loyalty of every student, teacher and member of the P.T.A., which he promotes so diligently. His firm belief in democracy and the future of our country has been an inspiration to Empehites during the last few years torn by war.

A MESSAGE FROM OUR LEADER ' SSE QUAM VlDERl: This Latin motto appears on one of the banners hang- ing on the walls of Empehi. Its English rendition is, To be rather than seem- ing to be. This is an expression of the true spirit that should characterize every student graduating from the Morgan Park High School. The policies of the administration are so fashioned as to bring about this most desirable objective. They may be briefly stated as follows: Cll good citizenship, C25 de- mocracy, C39 co-operation, C4l student responsibility, C55 tolerance, C69 justice, C77 fair play, C83 an appreciation and a love for our common mother tongue, and C9l following the truth wherever she may lead. While we have no specific course in character education, we have seen to it that all of our school work is saturated with those traits which make for good citizenship. We aim to develop the whole individual-physical, mental, and moral. But the most im- portant of these is the moral. Failure at this point means a breakdown all the way along the line. In these times of storm and stress when it seems that the very foundations of civilization are cracking and crumbling, we need to build our individual lives and that of our beloved America upon the eternal principles of right recognized by all good men down through the ages. Finally, I should like to conclude my message to the graduating class of lune, 1943, with a quotation from the world's best seller. lt runs as follows: Whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatso- ever things are of good report, if there be any praise, think on these things.
