Page 6 EMPEHI GOES TO WAR! The year of l942-43 has brought many changes to the lives of Empehites. Many have seen their brothers leave for theaters of War, many graduating seniors are an- ticipating their own call to the country's service. Therefore, the students of Morgan Park have become more aware of this war and what it means to their future. ln doing their share students worked long and hard during the scrap-drive col- lection-many pulling to school in Wagons what the basement had brought forth. Red Cross drives and Victory Book campaigns flourished, and War Bond and Stamp sales have slowly increased due to the efforts of the faculty. Physical fitness programs have been stressed in physical education classes, R.O.T.C. cadets swing out with a feeling of really accomplishing something, extra-cur- ricular clubs have attempted to clarify and explain certain war activities in their pro- grams, assembly programs have empha- sized certain phases of the war effort. With all its seriousness, however, Mor- gan Park has not lost its lighter side. Dur- ing the fall and spring days students still congregate along the shady walks sur- rounding the school, although the converti- bles have practically disappeared from the scene. Football games and other sport- ing events are still tops for Empehites. We of the graduating classes leave Mor- gan Park for new fields-most boys for some field of service for our country. We will carry with us all the memories of a happy four years and also hope that those remaining will enjoy the same experi- ences.

We pray that no more gold stars will mar our flag, and sympathy is extended for those gold stars already present. THE STAFF SPEAKS This year's Annual has a story to tell, a story of War against aggression. The H1943 Empehi is not an Annual as elab- orate as the books ot past years, because of this War. F or as We continue our second year ot War, such commodities as printer's materials, photography plates, and paper are practically impossibilities. But, in spite ot all these handicaps the Staff has attempted to bring the Empehi as near tradition as possible. The clubs, committees, and sports are the things which will live in the memories ot Em- pehites. We now wish to thank the students, faculty, and outsiders, Whose co-operation has made the Empehi come nearer a success than it would have been Without their assistance. The story the Annual has to tell is one ot courage to face the War, and the peace that will tollow when We are victorious. This message goes especially to the stu- dents leaving Empehi this year. Also a message to those coming on, and to those now in Morgan Park, to be good citizens, and enjoy Empehi so that your Annual will mean as much to you as We hope the 43 will mean to the graduates this year. And tinally, a story to all Empehites- Be tops in everything you undertake, es- pecially Americanism, and never forget your years as a student at Morgan Park.
