gelfil ci M., Cf... om... The February Class of nineteen hundred thirty-eight has left behind a note- worthy chapter in the history of Ernpehi. The Grand Ballroom of the Medinah Athletic Club on North Michigan Avenue was the scene of the Senior Prom held on Tuesday evening, January twenty-fifth. Nearly five hundred couples gathered to dance to the music of Harvey Clyde and his orchestra. This attendance set a record for high school dances. The competition for the class officers was keen. Finally John Riddle, an athlete and a scholar, was elected president of the class. Marion Arnold became vice-president and Doris Westerburg was secretary. Frank McGrath, a football hero of the season, served as class treasurer. The gift committee was headed by Ruth Eddy. The committee decided to buy curtains for the newly enlarged library. The Senior Assembly was presented cn the Wednesday before graduation. The assembly was a play about the comic character Little Abner. Frank McGrath enacted the main part with Eileen Jones, Neil Johnston, Edward McKinlay, Martin Haedtler, William Deiters, and Marion Arnold in leading roles as Kentucky hill-billies. The plot was based on the modernizing of Dog- Patch. Every one of the scenes held new thrills with many classmen display- ing their talents in the final night club setting. It was complete in details with even Salomie, the Yokum pig, present in grand style. Arthur Bethke acted as Empehi's principal on Student Administration Day. The students took charge of the school after fourth period for the rest of the day. Seniors managed the offices of Dr. Tubbs and Captain Lorentz, giving orders to other seniors who instructed in the classrooms. Still desiring more social enjoyment, the seniors gathered in the small gymnasium for a backwoods social. A great deal of fun was had by all and prizes were awarded to the persons wearing the best costumes. 'I The next evening the members of the February nineteen hundred thirty- eight class received their diplomas and left behind them the much beloved Ernpehi. New they are finished enacting their part in this high school history and they are out to add new chapters to their personal history but Morgan Park High School will long be remembered by all.
