THE CHANGING WGRLD QTKTWPOVH mutantur, et nos mutamus in illisj Is YOUTH the same today as yesterday? Essentially, yes. It has the same normal tendencies. It also craves success and happiness. But yesterday these objectives Were gauged in material values, which were then easy enough to obtain. Emphasis was placed upon vocational training, preparation for a job, with the almighty dollar as the goal, and success and happiness depended on the possession of it. Today, however, the outlook is different. Jobs are scarce and not so remunerative as yesterday. Our young people must seek happiness through other channels than those Which only Wealth will open. Money after all, isn't everything in life. There are spiritual values which no money can buy. Can gold calm passions, or make reason shine? Can We dig peace, or wisdom, from the mine? Wisdom to gold prefer, for ,tis much less ii To make our fortune, than our happineessf' Life is a game with ever-changing values, and there has never been a time When changes have been so numerous and have come upon us with such appall- ing rapidity as the present. The youth of today must face these facts and meet them courageously. In his endeavor to play the game, he will need the sympa- thetic guidance of his elders, his parents and teachers. Their enlightening advice and comforting example will mean much to him. More than ever does it devolve upon the teaching profession to emphasize spiritual values rather than material values. I have played my part in this game, whole heartedly, trying to give the best Within me, unmindful of the score, and smiling even inndefeat, knowing that, in the long run, honest effort would bring the desired result. If I have contributed to the happiness and future well-being of the pupils under my care, I shall consider my part well done. WILLIAM SCHOCH
