Miss Condit and Miss Bauman became faculty advisers of the f ,+ club at this time. The usual semi-annual contest was dropped and membership , f by application was substituted. Members concentrated all their efforts upon H vw- publishing the Quilpen, a magazine containing stories and poems by members ,.,. t and by applicants for membership. J -+ The cover contest was responsible for the new Quilpen cover. The whole - F magazine carried a freshness and variety which interested the student body. H 4 A new feature this year was the Letters from Foreign Lands, written to Morgan 4- Park students by correspondents in China, Australia, India, Barbados Islands, if and the Philippines. Y-r Quilpen presented one school assembly. A one-act play entitled Financial S if Difficulties was the chief feature of the Assembly. RIGINATED but four semesters ago, Quill and Scroll, national honorary society W' K' for high school journalists, has this semester revealed the literary talent of f Y., many students of. Empehi. . . W' Many contributions were entered in the literary contests sponsored by f W, various magazines and by the main chapter of Quill and Scroll. Contests were in 5 held in numerous branches of literary work. Contributions from Morgan Park F W were submitted to the short story, poetry, book review, magazine review, news 'M K story, feature, interview, sports story, and column contests. F ,+ The members of Quill and Scroll who were members of the Empehi News W4 Staff edited a newspaper the last week of the first semester. It was called Y wf Scribblers' Scroll. W, F Fifteen students were taken into the society at the staff banquet last June. n wi- In February, fifteen more students were initiated. To become a member of ,,., Quill and Scroll, a student must be at least of junior standing and in the upper is up-ff third of his class, he must have done superior work in some phase of creative ,.., writing, and have been recommended by the adviser. 'f A' During the past year the club has been well represented in the various Q activities of the school, and has had some very interesting meetings. On Decem- W ber 16, the club sponsored the movie, Hot News, and the proceeds were given ,, f to the school Charity Fund. Y 1' In March several members and their guests went to see a well-known play, Y' Three Little Girls. After the play the club was entertained at the home of WF' Mrs. Hibbard, the new faculty adviser.
