JUNIOR HIGH LEARNS BASICS The junior High girls basketball team completed a successful season in 83-84. Participation was good with 18 girls on the seventh grade team and 15 girls on the eighth grade team. The seventh grade started the season with two losses but fin- ished the season with six con- secutive wins, giving them a record of 6-2. The eighth grade's record was 4-4. According to Coach Scott, some of the key players for the seventh grade were Mindy Spratt and Kelly Silkwood on offense and Becky Raines on defense. On the eighth grade team, Tami Randall led the team in scoring, steals, and rebounds. Christy Huffman was acknowl- edged as the team's floor lead- er. The junior high boys' teams this year were coached by Da- vid Wood. This year's teams learned that hustling can make up for lack of size and that teamwork is more important than playing as individuals. For the seventh grade, Tony Campbell was the leading scorer and rebounder and Scott Sherman was the best defensive player. The eighth grade's leading scorer was David White. Craig |oy and Trent Henry led in rebounds with Tony Edgar picked as the best defensive player. QUALITY SHOWS THROUGH Quality is better than quan- tity. This was certainly true for the junior high boys track team There were only six eighth graders and nine seventh graders on the team. The lack of size did not hamper the spirits of those who participated. Every mem- ber on the eighth grade team placed in the top three at least twice during the season. Versailles took seventh place in the eighth grade Laker Re- lays and second at Osage Invitational with a six member team. Jim Derry also became the new school record holder in the 1200 meter run.
