It's hard to capture the uniqueness of a whole year into 200 pages of pic- tures with captions. And of course each one of us has a unique year of our own; unlike any other. The largest gym ever at Versailles High, built to seat 2200 people was opened on January 23. Court warming night. So now that the school is near- ly finished, it is time to begin new memories in a new atmosphere, with new places, and different faces. Like moving away from home, we slowly adapted to the surroundings of our new high school. It was hard at first, especially at the sight of con- crete floors, the awful smell of glue, paint, etc. etc. . . But as the year went on things began shaping up; we started to feel at home. We started feeling like a student body as a whole. the laughter Introduction! 3 VHS in action Jane and Susan enjoying the day at the park What animal are you trying to imitate today Stephanie? We attended three great years at the old high school hut none were better than our senior year. We will never forget these years or the memory of the friendships that will always linger on. Our sophomore year Rodney Klein repre- sented us well as he was elected Mirror King and to attend the Sophomore Pilgrimage. Rodney was elected most popular hoy our ju- nior and senior years. Ann Wenger was cho- sen most popular girl our Senior year also. Angie Coffman was elected Courtwarming Queen. Our floats started to get recognition with our 3rd place our Junior year with the theme “tollhouse Rock . Our senior year we tied for 2nd with the theme “Snelling Salts”. We entertained the seniors with the prom theme of Summer Nights. This year we en- joyed our prom Gone with the Wind. We have many outstanding athletes in our class who have led our teams to state play. There are so many other accomplishments that our class has made that it is impossible to list them all. They are all memories to remember always. The athletes season started out with football and volleyball. Football really improved this year with ion Larson as head coach. The girls volleyball season was something to remember as was the Boys Basketball. As in the past, the Girls basketball was good or better than anyone could have imagined. They had the almost perfect season . The wrestling boys didn't surprise us at all with their season. They took another guy to state. Girls and boys track did es- pecially well this season. Coaches Summary: The 1980 Tiger Football season was a disappointing one from the won and lost standpoint. From the stand- point of enthusiasm and hard work the Ti- gers never gave up. The attitude of the team was outstanding all season. This attitude, en- thusiasm, and hard work should pay off for us next year. We graduated many fine Senior ball players but we have several key play- ers returning next season. The Tigers will be back! The Varsity season record was 2-6. Varsity Football 41 JUNIOR VARSITY FOOTBALL: Row 1 Larry Thompson; manager; Neal Sidebottom, Rodney Culp, Rob Cashman, Sonny Hixon, David Salzman, Todd Hanson, Alan Daniels, Randy Campbell, Delbert Fields, manager. COACHES SUMMARY: The 1980 junior varsity football season opened with two quick shutouts. Then a touch schedule dimmed the squad for the rest of the season, with two very close losses. The junior varsity still managed to post a 2-3 record, while giving valuable experience to a young squad. A carry-over of the team play and determination on the part of each player will be a tremen- dous asset to the success of next years varsity team. Knowing full well the diffi- culty in what lay before them and the success of the previous year, the Tigerette's played with intensi- ty. The Junior Varsity placed sec- ond in the Camdenton Invitational and shared with Camdenton the ti- tle of Conference Champs. They finished the fourteen game sched- ule losing only to Eldon, estab- lished a 6-1 conference standing and an overall 13-1 record. The Varsity shared much of the same glory as their younger teammates experienced. The Tigerette's came away with a first in the Sacred Heart Tournament, and the Conference Title—culmi- nating the season with a 6-1 con- ference record and an 18-3 finale for the year. This 1980 volleyball team deserves much credit and ac- clamation for their outstanding performances for their seasons ac- complishments. The talent dis- played from this varsity team will make it difficult for future teams to surpass. VARSITY VOLLEYBALL: Row 1 Cindy Williams, manager; Tern Ypya, Wen- dy Slagle. Beth Bauer. Jackie Tortorice was crowned for the 1980-81 school year. The play. Barefoot In The Park, by the drama department was also a big success and very much enjoyed by everyone. January 23, 1981, Court- warming was highlighted by the opening of the new high school gymnasium and the crowning of Angie Coffman and Sue Francis as Queen and Princess. Play 85 AUTOGRAPHS AUTOGRAPHS Fame highlight of seventh Spring Fling Ginger White's rendition of Fame , from the musical and movie by the same name, was the highlight of this year's Spring Fling. Ginger was backed vocally by cousin Beth Bauer and instrumentally by Tim Bentch, Matt Lewis, Daniel McClellan, and Jeff Baumgartner. The instrumentalists in Spring Fling devote alot of their time to vocal groups and solos to prepare for the show. Many times these gifted people accompany most of the performing groups. Soloists feel they sound more professional with instruments such as drums, electric guitars and pianos, and basses backing them, and for good reason. Jamie Hutchison, Matt Lewis, Angie Coffman, and Dale Fields were the masters of ceremonies for this Seventh Annual Spring Fling held on May 14. Jamie, Matt, and Angie were hosts in 1980 and were elected to return this year. Their duty was to introduce acts and numbers and to inform the audience of procedures. The show this year had an excellent attendence and proceeds went toward the purchase of a stereo and accessories for the Vocal Music Department. Following tradition. Seniors enrolled in Vocal Music were pre- sented with a flower by Mrs. Woolley at the show's end. Miss Fisher, who had many new ideas and suggestions. A Go West party was com- bined with FTA around Hal- loween. (Those who attended sure did like marshmallows!) The regional convention was held in California where we attended various seminars and where we also received an award for gaining the most new members. The annual Christmas party began with everyone piling into cars so we could start our caroling. We finally made it back and began eating and exchanging gifts. FHA week began with a bake sale and gradually ended with an assembly at which we announced Pat and Wade as Boy Girl of the Year. A fashion show and banquet are also in the schedule and then there's next year.
