TEACHER’S WORKSHOP Randy and Lyle: Coach Ward, you're going to have to quit hollering so loud after water breaks. r Remembering . He Maketh No Mistakes My Father's way may twist and turn My heart may throb and ache But in my soul I'm glad I know He maketh no mistakes. My cherished plans may go astray My hopes may fade away But still III trust my Lord to lead For He doth know the way. The night be dark and it may seem That day will never break I'll pin my faith, my all in Him He maketh no mistake. There’s so much I now cannot see My eyesight's far too dim But come what may. I'll simply trust And leave it all to Him. For by and by the mist will lift And plain it all He'll make Through the way, tho' dark to me He made not one mistake. —A. M. Overton 10 Stan Rogers Carl Day Carl, a small lad, came our way. With a smile and a laugh he cheered our day. His sparkling eyes and sandy hair Made us all love him while he was here. Carl, a determined hoy. Who tried each task with joy. He pulled his stunts as class clown, With never a frown. Carl in art needed no stencil. Just give him a sketch pad and pencil. Cooking and farming were his delight, Whether it be day or night. Carl will not pass our way again, But his memory will linger within. Cystic Fibrosis took its toll And removed Carl from our class roll. —Friends of Carl For Scotty Espinosa His desk is empty now it was many times in the past But this time we know His going away in February was to be the last. We can close our eyes And all the while Remember in our hearts His happy smile Such a cooperative boy Friendly, cheerful, and loved by all he knew; So much pant and discomfort Yet complaints were so very few. Yes, his desk is empty now He sits there no more But through closed eyes and tears we see Scotty just as he was before. —Erma Johnson 11 Carl Scotty John Wayne's Oscar for True Grit.” He died in June 1979. Most people an- ticipated the season to be a building year as the Tigers returned only four starters and very little experience from their 1978 team. However, through hardwork and determination, the Tigers got off to the best start in recent years as the Var- sity posted an early-season 4-0 record. Unfortu- nately they were hobbled down the stretch by injuries. Superior attitude was the key to the sea- son as the varsity finished with a winning record of 5-4 and the high school posted a composite record of 11-5-1. The future looks bright for Foot- ball at VHS. Hot Potato! Varsity Finishes With Winning Record of 5-4 VARSITY FOOTBALL: Row 1 Sonny Hixon, Kevin Scott, Kenny Hayden, Brad Kohler, Brent Marshall. We captured the conference tournament title for the second consecutive year. We received honors by hosting the District and being the first women's team in the history of Versailles athletics to win the ti- tle. The Tigers started off the season with no returning starters and with players that saw only minimal playing time the year before. The Tigers played numerous close games, but the lack of Varsity experience they came out on the short end. A bright spot for the team was when they lead the state for the first half of the year in total team defense allowing 49.4 points a game.
