BE ONE OF THE CROWD! WE HEARD AS WE ENTERED AND JOINED THE THRONG OF OTHERS THAT HAD COME BEFORE US. NOW WE HAVE COMPLETED OUR WORK HERE AND MOVED ON TO TAKE OUR PLACE IN THE WORLD FOR WHICH WE CAME TO PREPARE. NOW OUR DAY HAS PASSED AND THE DOORS ARE CLOSED. 4 DURING THE SCHOOL YEAR 1970-71, WE HAVE WITNESSED MANY CHANGES IN MANY THINGS. THROUGH MANY HOURS OF HARD WORK AND A LOT OF CON- CENTRATED EFFORT. THE MIRROR STAFF OF ’71 HAS ATTEMPTED TO RECORD SOME OF THESE CHANGES AS REFLECTIONS IN THIS, THE 1971 MIRROR. WITH DUE RESPECT TO ALL PEOPLE INVOLVED, THE STAFF OF THE '71 MIRROR WISHES TO LEAVE WITH EACH OF YOU THROUGH ITS EFFORTS FOND MEMORIES OF ALL THE GOOD TIMES AND HAPPY DAYS AT V. H. S. TO LINGER WITH YOU AND WARM YOUR HEARTS SO THAT THE BRIEF PERIOD OF TIME THAT HAS ELAPSED FROM SEPTEMBER'70 TO MAY '71 WILL ALWAYS BE REMEMBERED AS AN OCCASION WHEN LIFE MAY HAVE SEEMED A LITTLE ROUGH; BUT AS WE LOOK BACK ON IT. THE REFLECTIONS IN THE MIRROR SHOW THAT WE WERE INDEED FORTUNATE TO BE ASSOCIATED WITH EACH OTHER AS WE TOOK THIS ONE STEP THROUGH LIFE TOGETHER. IT IS OUR HOPE THAT YOU WILL BE PLEASED WITH THESE REFLECTIONS THAT WE LEAVE FOR YOU AS WE HAVE ATTEMPTED TO PUT TOGETHER IDEAS WITH PICTURES THAT WOULD BE OF INTEREST TO THE MAJORITY, AND THE TASK WAS NOT A SIMPLE ONE; YET IT HAS BEEN ONE WE ENJOYED. Always sincere, earnest, deeply interested. Gone from the halls? Just a few days ago her class finished the Constitu- tion. Never she had complained, Never has there been a class like this. Not once, not twice, but three times, four times I've given this test to you. Over and over and over - her voice boomed out of Room 1. Study! Study! You won't go to high schoo 1 unless you pass. And you will pass. Don't ever forget that. You will study until you do. and later she stood at my desk. Beaming. Proud as a mother. Proud as a teacher. They passed. Every one of them. Put it on their records. One more class - a good class. Gone from the halls? There on the shelf is the overhead projector. How many times it was used to make posters. The many posters that came out of Miss Bass's class. Nursery Rhymes, stories, - Rumpelstiltsken - Bambi - The 3 Pigs. They brightened walls and cheered hearts from Kindergarten to grades, from office to Head Start. It was nothing, she said. The kids did it. They love it. It's goodforthem ■ doing something for others. Gone from the halls? Oh no. There is the bulletin board in the downstairs hall. The one that holds the daily menu, What's for Dinner? It needs fixing, Someone said. I'll doit, she said. There she was, with several of her students. A paper plate , a cup, a flower here and there. Beautiful! And so it could go on and on. Her thoughtfulness. Her cheer. Her caring. Gone from the halls? Not really. Her memory lingers on in the halls, in the classrooms, and in the hearts of all of us. We hit it lucky by being the last class to participate in initiation. We rolled the peanuts, floured our faces, passed the orange, smashed the eggs, and hiked the watermelon, and then we were accepted. We elected as our president Bobby Arnold. With our sponsor s: Mrs. DeeDee Hutchison, Mr. Lyle Chamberlain, and Mr. R. S. Kimpton, help we began a great year. It didn't take us long to become known, for that was the first year we swept the ballot boxes, and Missy Johnson became Basketball Homecoming Queen. Nancy Marker was our Football Homecoming candidate, Linda Wenger, our FFA Sweetheart candidate and Jan Sousley, Mirror Queen candidate. School passed quicky that year and before we knew it we were sophomores. Now that we were acquainted with the hallowed” halls of old VHS, we started right in and began another year. We elected as our president, David Lyle and began the activities of our class. Margaret Cable was our Basketball Homecoming candidate, Linda Lepley was our Football Homecoming candidate, Sue Holst, FFA Sweetheart candidate, and Nancy Marker, Mirror Queen Candidate. This was the year of the great Biology Dinner, and naturally our class had a blow-out. Junior year started with sorrow, for we lost one of our dearest classmates. Someone we'll always remember and whose memory we shall always cherish, Missy Johnson. School con- tinued, but with a calmness. Our Basketball Homecoming candidate, Jeannie Laughenberg, won queen that year. Jan Sousley was our Football Homecoming candidate, Anna Barton and Teresa Garrison, Mirror Queen candidates, and Mary Jane Hoskins FFA Sweetheart candidate. This was the year for our prom and we chose the theme Romance in Venice. ” Dan Daulton served as Class President. Senior year at last! All eleven long years we have waited and finally its here. We started off the year and elected Margaret Cable as Class President. We showed our might again when Vickie Fisher was elected Basketball Homecoming Queen and Patti Whittle was elected Mirror Queen. Anna Barton was Football Homecoming candidate and Karen Taylor was FFA Sweetheart candidate. As in all years there were countless happenings and sweet mem- ories we shall all cherish. It is really very hard to write in words the High School lives of ninety individuals. All that can be said is that though there have been many times we've longed for summer vacations, we shall always miss VHS. That although it's time to say good- bye, we'll just say until we meet again. For we shall always hold a place in our hearts for the many good times, the sad times, and hard times at good old VHS. But every cloud has a silver lining, and ours was no different. The calm came after the storm and - - we took our place with the others, doing the things that we needed to do to successfully complete our task here. Now our task here has been completed and our chairs are empty - we leave them to those who come after us. 199 As we each go our separate way, may we pause occasionally and refresh ourselves with a look in the MIRROR at the reflections of the school year 1970-71. The Staff of the 1971 MIRROR hopes that its endeavors this past year will give you many hours of pleasantry and may God bless you. ' i j' -- - ■ '■'. V W. . i W V
