— DecUcatc94t To the individual: YOU are important. It is important how you vote, speak up, get involved, commit yourself. It matters that you support those things which are right, ... in a world that is one percent good, one percent bad, and 98 percent neutral. --Hans Habe S tnacccc icut a 2t ? zccc(ttt z td SCa ....53 tIfazde f-$ 6 'ftyiy i ScTioaC 77 s4eiventi4i ty ... tn 6 ztco uzle In his strip, Schulz holds a mirror up to nature, and readers happily recognize themselves in it as they would in the mirror of a funhouse. Reflected in Snoopy and friends, we see the kind of person we want to be. To us, they symbolize decency and in- tegrity—the good things of life. Watching their various adventures— baseball games, Red Baron hunting— we can learn from them about life: The happiness. The miseries. The joys. The heartbreaks. As Temco-Vought, Inc. points out, in one of their trenchant messages to sportsmen, we can learn, if we want to learn, that winning is not the point--the ultimate objective of the game and of life. Wanting to win is the point. Not giving up is the point. Never being satisfied with what we have done is the point. Never letting up is the point. Never letting anyone down is the point. Snoopy may never catch the Red Baron or play on a winning baseball team, but it's not winning that counts. What counts is trying. •Life, Vol. 62, March 17, 1967, p. 74. 4 TV UK 'PufifeCf . . , 8 « - s4 t s4 t uozC Sta$ 7( 6e e iCttt tf £oesuf Hte s4fr frtect zte4. t e ScUton- . . . 9 . , . We did try, and we did win! It was a good school year: Lifelong friendships grew in depth and significance. Romances started and endured or led gently to others. Games were played: played to win. although winning was not the motive. This book finally closed the way we wanted it. And lessons were learned--many in the classrooms, others on the playing field, still others at parties, plays, concerts, field trips, dating, studying. We of the annual staff speak for all of our friends and teachers in saying that it was one of the best years of our lives. We close with the hope that trying to win may always be an important part of life 156 . . . .... ...• . Second Chorus: Here’s to Our Classes . .
