MORGAN COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL Hartselle, Alabama Pat Pierson, Editor Phillip James, Business Manager Mrs. Catherine Sims, Advisor c MORCOHI iable of contents fore iv or d................. pres, of stucfent council. .... ecfitor...................... slaff-..................... dedication................... 3 4 5 6-7 8-9 principal. 10 faculty 1148 classes 19-94 features 95412 sports 113448 oryanizations 149480 advertisements 181-209 oreworcf The school year of 1964-65 was basically the same as any high school year; we studied, had fun, experienced sad moments of trial and error. There were games and dances; voices were hoarse from pep rally rooting and singing. There were brief moments of glory for some of us in sports, musical and dramatic productions. All shared the hopeless reality of exami- nations and deadlines, the semester grades, the noontime cafeteria rush. These impressions are only a few that were packed into this full year. Credit for the production of this book goes to the loyal MORCOH1 Staff. The Staff, how- ever, has furnished only the outline of the story that we find when we turn these pages filled with warm smiles of friendship and many happy recollections. The rest is up to the indi- vidual. Underclassmen who return to MCHS in the fall will continue to keep up the high standards of the school and strive for improvements. Graduates will go their separate ways using the knowledge they gained here to reach their successes. It is not today that you will appreciate the MORCOHI. Tomorrow, when it is not so easy to think back on 1965, we will treasure the memories this book has stored for us. PAT PIERSON Editor I would like to thank you, the students of Morgan County High, for allowing me to serve you as President of the Student Council. The success of our Student Council activities and projects was made possible because of your support and cooperation. 1 would especially like to thank the individual council members and other officers for their enthusiastic efforts throughout the entire year. I wish for each of you much success and happiness during your remaining school days. I hope that Morgan County High will continue to grow and prosper as it has done in the past. 4 As the year 1965 draws to a close, we look back with pleasure upon the events that have filled our cup of memories to overflowing. We have attempted to capture the best and most outstanding of these memories between the covers of the 1965 MORCOH1. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have an advisor as capable as Mrs. Catherine Sims to help us over the rough spots; and we cannot adequately express our thanks to our photographer, Mr. Tommy Putman, whose patience and co-operation with the annual staff were truly astonishing and always ap- preciated. We hope that we have succeeded in our endeavor to present a good annual to you, the students of Morgan County High School. With the sincere wish that each of you will find among these pages something special - something you will remember and cherish for a long time - we give you the 1965 MORCOH1. Pat Pierson Editor-in-Chief 1965 MORCOHI orconi EDITOR-IN-CHIEF: Pat Pierson MORCOHI SPONSOR: BUSINESS MANAGER: Phillip James Mrs. Catherine Sims CLASS EDITORS: Pat Stephenson, Martha Oden, and Brenda CO-FEATURES EDITORS: Pat Pickens, Judi Elliott; ORGANI- Johnson ZATIONS ED.: Pat McAbee SPORTS EDITORS: Wayne Kyker and Venita White SENIOR EDITORS: Jane Bennett, Linda Schutz, and Sherry Lang CLASS EDITORS: Ann Hall, Carol Meadows, and Jann Moore ART EDITOR: Wilda Darby TYPIST: Jennie Sivley PHOTOGRAPHER: Anthony Patterson THE MORCOHI This year’s MORCOHI is the largest book ever produced with 224 pages. We, the MORCOHI STAFF, have added many new features in the hope that we will produce a better book for you. We hope you enjoy the 1965 MORCOHI as much as we have enjoyed creating it for you. FACULTY EDITOR: Jane Wesson CLASS EDITOR: Ann Hagen Oec icat on Receive my instruction and not money; choose knowledge rather than gold. For wisdom is better than all the most precious things; and what- soever may be desired cannot be compared to it.” Proverbs 8:10-11 We. the 1965 MORCOH1 STAFF, dedicate our yearbook to you, Mrs. Catherine Sims, for effectively teaching us that wisdom is its own reward. Mrs. Sims, you have been a true friend to us. But more than a friend, you have helped us, in particular, on our yearbook. Y ou have overlooked our forgetfulness, our carelessness, and our inconsideration. You have made us look within ourselves and laugh when we felt no laughter; you have pushed us farther on the road to maturity. Your calm resolution and your perspective of life have taken away our anger, sadness, and indifference and substituted un- derstanding. How can we say thank you and good-bye to a person who means so much to us and has done so much for us? We gave you a small gift as a remembrance, but this is too meaningless for you. Instead, we chose to work many long hours to produce for you the best yearbook ever at Morgan County High School. The 1965 MORCOHI is only the tangible em- bodying the intangible—our admiration. Therefore, we dedicate our yearbook, which we have worked so hard to produce and which is so important our Senior year, to you, “our Miss Sun- shine”. . 1965 MORCOHI STAFF Mrs. Sims teaches five periods of Biology at MCHS as well as one period of annual staff. The Tigers went on to win the game by a score of 3-0. This game was the only game Decatur lost in regular season play. A group of Tigers await to greet Grammer for his home- run. Doug Street scoops a low throw from short, to make an out. This play by Street saved a run and enabled the Tigers to come back the next inning and score the winning runs. The Tigers who did a fine job all year due to spirit and pure guts, the Tigers lost both of their starting pitchers, but still came back to do a great job for the school and the team. A good example of hustle is shown as Frank Parker scores from second on a single. Parker along with the rest of the team showed great hustle all during the season. The Tigers finished the season with a nice 9-4 record. This is counting the tournament play which the Tigers were well represented. The below picture is a great moment during the Hartselle-Decatur game, a long throw from first base kept the Decatur man from scoring on a very close play. The ump was right on the spot and called the play as he saw it. OUT. HOWARD TAYLOR SIDNEY MrfWIHAN The M.C.H.S.
