Why? We-I-I, it's a long story. The little freshmen girls with ten pig- tails and ragged blue jeans and shirts were very cute. They also had dainty onion necklaces. Some had one shoe of one kind and one of another kind, with dif- ferent socks and others didn't have any at all. The boys looked very motherly in their aprons. They had onion necklaces also. At 2:15 the freshmen were driven up the hill to the M where the whitewashing was carried out in the traditional way. But good spirits prevailed at the dance that night given by the sophomores in honor of the freshmen. The return dance for the sophomores by the fresh- men on October 17, was very successful. Mrs. Park, Miss McCormick, and Mr. Thomas were freshmen class sponsors. Class officers were: president, Patsy Copeland, vice-president, Nona Siegrist, secretary, Jesus Paez; and treasurer, Starr Roberts. LEFT TO RIGHT, FIRST ROW: R. Murillo, L. Nunn, H. Romisch, C. They had successful assemblies, and a dance where everyone had a very good time. Pigtails, aprons, ragged clothes, and lime mixed well on Friday, September 7, 1952, when the Sophomores initiated the Freshmen. The dance proved to the 137 tired, bowing Freshmen that they were heartily welcomed as new mem- bers of M.H.S. Patsy Copeland, Arthur Stoner, Jo Ann Hogg, Ervin Aker, Tommy Ross, Nona Siegrist, Jerry Perry, Sue Iley, Bradford Waldon, Betty Harris, Boyd White, Er nes- ti na Rodriguez, Arturo Martinez, Mary Luna, Lorenzo Garcia, Lillie Martinez, Billy Thompson, and Suzie Elkins dancing at the Sophomore dance. Class officers this year are Joe Alvarez, president; Manuel Martinez, vice-president; Sue Iley and Margarite Paez as secretary and treasurer. Spon- soring the Sophomore class are Mr. Harry Reeves, Mr. Jack Dumond and Mrs. Mary Laughran.
