Sr5 K een a Cjrand lyjear Its been a grand year. We've worked hard, played hard, and have had a wonderful time. 2 Every school year is remembered for special highlights, friends, classes, dances, jokes, sports, and fads (like the bells we all wore the week before Christmas!). We present to you, M.H.S. in 1952-53. May you remember it with pleasure in all the years to come. They are the first class to complete four years of high school in the new Morenci High School. Officers who led the class in their final year of activities, studies and fun were: Jerry Perry, president, Harry Shaver, vice- president, Gloria Maldonado, secretary, and Ann Zimmerman, treasurer. Class sponsors were Mrs. Rose Berra, Miss Jean Glover, and Mr. Patrick Maguire. During the year various members of the class took an active part in all school ac- tivities, and served as officers of various organizations thus giving the underclass- men the advantage of their experience. The social high lights of the year were the Senior Banquet given by the Seniors and the Junior Prom given in honor of the sen- iors by the Junior Class. The junior class met at the first of the school year with their sponsers Mr. Richardson, Mrs. Whitten, and,Coach Vukcevich, to elect their class officers. The results were: Curtis Waldon, president; Ramiro Beltran, vice president; Connie Norris, treasurer; and Carol Authur, secretary. The Rocket the class ring was the main interest ofall juniors. They anxiously waited for its arrival in December. The emblem is raised and set on white gold, with hinted gold initials on the outside. We think the junior class rings of 54 are the prettist ever. Later in the year the new King and Queen were crowned at the Junior Prom. The well-chosen couple, both looking happy and attractive, were crowned by last year's king and queen, Teddy Hayes and Gloria Maldonado. They had successful assemblies, and a dance where everyone had a very good time. Pigtails, aprons, ragged clothes, and lime mixed well on Friday, September 7, 1952, when the Sophomores initiated the Freshmen. The dance proved to the 137 tired, bowing Freshmen that they were heartily welcomed as new mem- bers of M.H.S. Patsy Copeland, Arthur Stoner, Jo Ann Hogg, Ervin Aker, Tommy Ross, Nona Siegrist, Jerry Perry, Sue Iley, Bradford Waldon, Betty Harris, Boyd White, Er nes- ti na Rodriguez, Arturo Martinez, Mary Luna, Lorenzo Garcia, Lillie Martinez, Billy Thompson, and Suzie Elkins dancing at the Sophomore dance. Why? We-I-I, it's a long story. The little freshmen girls with ten pig- tails and ragged blue jeans and shirts were very cute. They also had dainty onion necklaces. Some had one shoe of one kind and one of another kind, with dif- ferent socks and others didn't have any at all. The boys looked very motherly in their aprons. They had onion necklaces also. At 2:15 the freshmen were driven up the hill to the M where the whitewashing was carried out in the traditional way. But good spirits prevailed at the dance that night given by the sophomores in honor of the freshmen. The return dance for the sophomores by the fresh- men on October 17, was very successful. Mrs. Park, Miss McCormick, and Mr. Thomas were freshmen class sponsors. Class officers were: president, Patsy Copeland, vice-president, Nona Siegrist, secretary, Jesus Paez; and treasurer, Starr Roberts. LEFT TO RIGHT, FIRST ROW: R. Murillo, L. Nunn, H. Romisch, C. Tucker, Mr. Stone, W. Moore, C. Arthur, and S. Rathbun study an important issue. schools. A new policy was introduced, invit- ing the teachers to attend the council meet- ings. Certain laws were made for the benefit of the student body. One of the most important concerned the traffic in the halls. Using cer- tain stairs for going down and certain ones for going up. This helped relieve congestion in the halls. The Council started a series of record dances to see what the reaction of the students would be. It is hoped they will be continued throughout future years. St udent IdepreAentatiued are Cdounci LEFT TO RIGHT, FIRST ROW: B. Tucker, Vice-president; W. Moore, President; J. Perry, Senior; C. In Wood Shop, Mr. Hill teaches the fun- damentals of wood work to boys who are just beginning to take wood shop while the others, who are more advanced, work on projects that are useful around the home or at school.
