in our hew school Dreams do come true! From the time we first heard exciting rumors that anew high school was to be built, through the clearing of the site, our occasional glimpses of huge rolls of blueprints, the clearing and blasting for a foundation; the construction company moving in; the pouring of the first concrete; to the final completion of the building last August, we’ve dreamed of life in our new school. Our new building was erected for a con- tract cost of $739,000, is of fire resistent concrete construction, and is designed for a capacity of 700 high school and junior high students and provision was made in the original plans for future expansion. It has already gained a reputation for being one of the finest and most modern schools in the Southwest. Later in our book we’ll take you on a tour of our classrooms and departments, bright and cheerful with pretty pastel walls, new furniture and equipment. You’ll see our new gym, a double one with the huge electrically operated folding door that divides the room into two complete gymnasiums ora gym and an auditorium. You’ll see us at work and at play. And we think you’ll agree that--IT’S A GREAT LIFE IN OUR NEW SCHOOL. BELOW LEFT: The new Morenci High School com- pleted last August. BELOW RIGHT: Over main en- trance. THESE flRf THf fflLHS IUHO It took more than wishful thinking to make our dreams come true. It took long hours of work and planning by our superin- tendent, Jos. H. Fairbanks, and our board of education, L. L. McDaniel, E. E. Shaver and Warren Smith. Long ago our faculty submitted plans for their departments and suggestions for the whole building. Their plans were incorporated into the blue prints by Lescher and Mahoney, architects and eventually the final plans were approved. Then came sessions with the contractors, the Womack Construction Company, and the sub contractor s--electricians, plumbers, heating company, the roofers, and finally the L. L.
