Four years in this new building !!” This is what everyone was saying when a group of very proud students entered the halls of Morenci High. They were the first Freshmen in the new school. On initiation day, September 9, the freshies were subjected to much humiliation and embarrassment, but they enjoyed every minute of it, even the hard work of whitewashing the “M”. The long hike up to the“M”, no water, white wash, previously mixed by the Lettermen, brooms, buckets, levis, and lipstick scrambled together with laughter and lime were the ingredients of a highly successful Freshman initiation. But the Freshmen received just recompense that night at the dance given by the sophomore class in honor of the greenhorns. Two truckloads of Freshmen and faculty chaperons went to Apache Grove for their picnic on October 11. Once there, they had a whale of a time, playing games, and stuffing them- selves with food. The big Freshmen social event of the year was the return dance given for the Sophomores held on November 23. A Thanks- giving theme was used and autumn colors were used for decorations.
