SOPHOMORES On September 7, 1948, a group of students walked into the halls of Morenci High School feeling proud of themselves, knowing that they were Sophomores. They started the year very successfully by electing officers: President, Elisa Mena; Vice-President, Ida Rodela; Secretary, Betty Norris; and Treasurer, Maxine Blair. On September 10, the Sophomores sent the Freshmen to paint the “M”. The same evening the Sophomore Class gave a dance in honor of the Freshmen with a baby motif, decorated in pink and blue. Big baby bottles were scattered about the place and little baby bottle pins were pinned on the Freshmen as they entered the dance. On October 5, two truck loads of Sophomores trailed down to Potter’s Ranch for the Sophomore picnic. Playing, singing and, of course, eating was enjoyed by all. Miss Maxine Hagan is the Sophomore Sponsor. After supervising the painting of the M” the Sophs honored the Freshmen with a dance of September 10. The baby motif used was very effective and ap- propriate in pink and blue. 23
