The Glee Club under the direction of Miss Helen Mae Davis had an unusually successful season. The Messiah presented December 16 was lauded by the community as well as the high school audience. The music festival, held in Thatcner on April id, was the high light of the spring season.

Each year in the spring Morenci with the other schools in go to the annual music festival at Thatcher. Here each school competes to see who has the best band. Also, there is individual solo competition. The band has turned out for all the home football games this year to help cheer the team on to victory. The band also gave free public concerts. In addition to the main band, there is a junior high band, a violin group, a string ensemble, a brass sextet, and the swing band which played for a few dances. iBand the conference, . For the first time M.H.S. delegates went to the state convention which was held in Nogales. The council sponsored the noon recreation program and the second of tir- high school handbooks. The purpose of the Student Council is to foster school spirit and loyalty, to maintain high scholastic and character standards and promote the general welfare of the school. The student body leaders, under the direction of Mr. J. W. Stone, principal are; President, Harold Porter; Vice President, Alfredo Contreras; Secretary, Claud- ine Jackson; and Treasurer, Dolores Benavidez. 30
