A CASE IN POINT-THE MOREHOUSE COLLEGE FLAG by Sherman L. Anderson, 74 Dear Sir: It is with great appreciation that I, Sherman L. Anderson. at this time call upon you for your affirmative vote for a flag which I have designed for Morehouse College. Perhaps the statement is true Sir, that there comes a time in every man's life when he sits down and reminisces on the years behind and with ouriostiy thinks on the years before him. In doing this sir, I am reminded of my initial year at Morehouse. There were many faults about this institution. some which I wanted to Change immediately. However. I caught myself before continuing to criticize the college and I came up with the following analysis. Number one, She tMorehouseJ never claimed that she was one-hundred per- cent free of faults. nor did she advocate that she had the magical potion to solve the nation's problems. On the other hand sir, I think she has told me through my matriculation here, that the faults you often criticize are the very stepping stones to your success. Again sir, she diant advocate that she possessed the magical potion to solve the nation's problems. but she did advocate that here at More- house there exist some supernatural spirit of force that moves gracefully throughout the classrooms and if you get caught up in it. it makes you do magical things such as; Dr. Martin Luther King IL, Dr. Benjamin E. Mays. Dr. Howard Thurman and many others whom I will not mention. Now that you have shared some past experiences with me I ask your attention to the present and future. For the present sir, I urge your affirmative vote for the adoption of the enclosed flag as the official flag of More- houae College. For the future sir. perhaps in the eye of your life when your sight ceases to be as keen as it once was. when your memory loses its precision in recalling the past, when your body movements slow down to the beat of your aged heart. in reflecting on Morehouse College for the last time you will not only picture the buildings here or the people you've met here. but you'll picture a flag flying high and you voted for the adoption. It will speak when you are speechless. It Will flip with the breeze of the wind when you no longer can see it. It will be raised. lowered and raised again when you are no lonber here. It will remain for it is a flag. Yes The Morehouse Flag. tShermon L, Andersont Respectfully yours, Sherman L. Anderson
