Foreword For ninety-six years now, MorehouSt: Coilege has been constantly making strides toward academic excellence. She has gained respect, honor, and acclaim from many great personages and institutions the world over. She is known in this country and abroad by the overwhelming success of her producthorehouse Men. What, then, is chiefly responsible for this great distinction? No single factor can be isolated as being the factor to which such a great tribute must be paid. A multiplicity of factors must be considered. MOREHOUSE is an outstanding and beautiful physical plant, ever expanding and ever improving. She is a competent adminis- tration governing the affairs of her students and faculty with sin- cerity and fairness. She is also a trained and dedicated faculty which strives to make the learning process interesting, inspiring, and stimulating. MOREHOUSE is the hundreds of men, intellectually curious, socially adjusted, physically trained, and religiously orientated, who make up the student body. She is an active student government in which the voice of every student is given an attentive ear. MOREHOUSE is not only a plant with an administration, faculty. and a student body. It is the blending in of the format with the informal. It is the classroom. in which the student seeks knowledge in an atmosphere where all learning is a challenge. It is cold grits before eight o'ciock Philosophy; long hours in laboratories; campus bull sessions; appreciation for the beauty found in the friendship with coeds from Spelman and Other institutions in the Center; cram- ming for quizzes; hours spent in a dime-lit office working on overdue student publications, which arouse student opinions; daily chapel; chapel cuts; rapid transition from old to new; bon fires; the t'flunkersi ball, the twist bossa nova. jazz, complaints . . . THIS IS MOREHOUSE. The 1963 TORCH proposes to present to you, within the limi- tations of copy and photography and human errors. the many factors which. when combined. make up Morehouse College. We realize, howevert that the only true expression of such a great institution is found in the hearts of each son of Morehouse. t oWM Louis C, Wilson, for the staff
