EAGLES DRUB EASTERN 21-9 Led by the fancy running of Howard Murphy, the Blue and Gold of Morehead beat the Eastern Maroons on their home gridiron. In defeating Eastern the Eagles grabbed the Old Hawg Rifle for the first time since 1949. The Big Blue led at halftime by a slim 7-6 margin. As the second half got underway, Eastern scored on ,a field goal to go ahead 9-7. The fighting Eagles then roared back with Tony Gast recovering a Maroon fumble on the Eastern 37-yard line. Witli Buford Crager carry- ing on five of seven plays, Morehead scored to go ahead 14-9. Later in the fourth period Murphy ripped around left end, stiff-armed three would-be tacklers and scored to make it 21-9. By downing Eastern, the Eagles racked up their 2nd O.V.C. win of the season and closed out the season with a won-lost slate of 5-4. Eagles hold on 1 yard line . . . MOREHEAD BEATS HILLTOPPERS 12-6 Morehead's Eagles returned home with fire in their eyes and defeated Western 12-6. Mike Brown and Howard Murphy highlighted the afternoon. Murphy gained 72 yards in 14 carries and scored the winning touchdown while Brown's booming punts kept Western in the hole most of the afternoon. M.S.C.'s other touchdown was scored by Buford Crager on a two-yard run. In winning the contest Morehead recorded its first conference win of the season. This year's football championship was won by the Hotdogs who were undefeated and unscored upon. Members of the winning team were: Les. Redmond, Dave Applegate, Fred Francis, Ray O'Keefe, Frank Conyers, Bill Craigmyle, Bill Redmond, Mike O'Leary, Jerry Powell, Lee Elrick, Joe Dolgas, Ben Metcalfe, Ronnie Johns, Ken Kinghorn, and Jack Rader.
