Hastings boots field goal . . . MIDDLE TENN. DROPS EAGLES 28-O The Eagles continued their road tour at Murfreesboro as they fell to a strong Tenn. team 28-0. The Blue Raiders jumped to a quick first period lead 14-0 while the Eagle defenses were down. Tenn, continued to dominate play in the second period and went out at the half leading 21-0. The Eagles dropped the game and their record stood at 5-5. Murphy Finds Trouble MURRAY EDGES MOREHEAD 14-8 The Eagles, playing at the Thor- oughbreds' home stadium, got off to a slow start and were down 14 points at halftime. Fighting a defensive duel in the third period the Eagles held the opposition. In the fourth quarter Morehead marched 87-yards on 12 plays and Walt Shepard carried for the score from the three yard line. Quarterback Henry Schutte passed to Howard Mur- phy for the two point conversion. As the horn sounded the Eagles trailed 14-8 and were threatening to score again. , A Sideline Advice EAST TENN. DOWNS M.S. C. 38-13 Continuing their tour of the Volunteer State, the Eagles journeyed to East Tenn. Playing before the home crowd, the Buckineers jumped to a 24-0 halftime lead. Howard Murphy put the Eagles on the scoreboard in the third period with a two yard plunge. East Tenn. got two more touchdowns in the third period as they capitalized on Morehead errors. Bud Ogden scored the Eagles' last TD on a 16-yard pass from Schutte. 35

EAGLES THRILL HOMECOMING CROWD Freshman halfbacks Howard Murphy and Bud Ogden ran wild as the Eagles trounced previously undefeated West Virginia Tech 49-15, before a wildly cheering homecoming crowd of 4,500. The game was one of extreme contrasts, as Tech led at halftime by 7-6. The Eagles roared back in the third quarter to score three times. Freshman skatback Howard Murphy gained 136-yards ia 11 carries, scored a touchdown, added two m6re points on a conversion and had a 43-yard touchdown called back. Other Eagle stars of the day were Bud Ogden with two touchdowns, Henry Schutte and Walt Shepard with one TD each. Morehead outgained W. MOREHEAD BEATS HILLTOPPERS 12-6 Morehead's Eagles returned home with fire in their eyes and defeated Western 12-6. Mike Brown and Howard Murphy highlighted the afternoon. Murphy gained 72 yards in 14 carries and scored the winning touchdown while Brown's booming punts kept Western in the hole most of the afternoon. M.S.C.'s other touchdown was scored by Buford Crager on a two-yard run. In winning the contest Morehead recorded its first conference win of the season.
