Principal f Mr. XYendell Newlin, principal of john Motley Morehead High School has been in the system for 15 years. He came to Leaksville as principal of Leaksviile Graded School, later taking over the --- High School in Leaksville. XVhen the modern up-to-date Morehead High was completed, he took over the difficult task of organizing the new school. Under his capable guidance the high school has grown continuously since the beginning. Mr. Newlin strives daily to mold better citizens for t.he future. -4-'Q Q4 ...J C..,L3- Ages' ei, .1 f- , i Ns J' SUPERVISOR Mr. Russell Byrd is Classroom Supervisor of the Tri-City schools. The board has initiated and is almost finishcd with a 51,376,000 school-building program. The last phase of the program is the Morehead High School auditorium which is slated for completion in late spring. The school board has consistently viewed the problems of maintaining a sound school system from an objective standpoint preferring to attack the problems on the basis of need, service 5. .v 3, X if 10 as Mr. Houglfs vitality and awareness of the needs X Bo ard to the students and assistance to teachers, principals and other snpcrvisory staffs in the Leaksville Township school system. They have, as members of the school board, devoted many hours of painstaking planning to enable the school system to keep pace with the fast-moving developments in the fields of science, mathematics. foreign languages and industrial education, since these factors are being emphasized as integral needs bv the federal government in its efforts to outdistance dictatorship nations in the race to train a competent population. uperintendent John Hough, superintendent of the Leaksville Township school system, is one of 30 American administrators and educators selected to make a trip to Russia last October to examine and observe the Russian system of education-elementary secondary, primary, and college. Mr Hough has been administrator of Leaksville Townhsip schools for some 15 years, During his Q administration, Leaksville Township has undergone a transfonnation both in organizational set-up and in its education curriculum and administration. The development of the physical facilities of the schools has resulted in expansion and renovation of existing schools and building of new ones. A concerted effort has been made to attract and keep teachers of high academic standing, training, back- l ground, and experience in the school System. of an educational system in a modern day has . in the role of school systems in the United States and has put the stamp of excellence on the over- all educational picture in Leaksville Tpwnship.
