This years varsity football team finished 7 wins and 8 losses. Their record doesn't really tell the true story of how well this team played. For the first time in the schools history, the Mariner Football team was ranked in the state of California. The team defeated 3 North Coast Section Teams: San Leandro 35-7, Encinal 2I-IO, and Washington ll-I4. On offense the Mariners were 3rd in the Easy Bay. The offense was led by the running of Braxton Banks the passing of Craig Rowe, the receiving of Tim Slone, Glenn Baxley. Mike Rossi and Joe Farrish and the outstanding line play of Dan Squires, Dave Pereria and Mike Wenzler. The unsung players of our fine offensive team were Tim Young and Jeff Chimienti at half back. On defense the Mariners had 4 excellent games vs Irvington, San Leandro, Encinal and Castlemont where they Iineb and Liebo only allowed 30 total pts. The defense was led by ckers: Tim Slone, Eric Archuletta, Jim Redmond ich Valle, with the help from backups Dave witz and John Looney. The D-Line was anchored by Dan quires, George Famous and Jim Rosette while the seco dary was led by Glenn Baxley and Jrs. Steve Libby and Hayme Lake. Th re is no doubt in the mind of this team's coach that the l Nort 85 football team was definitely the 42 team in the Coast Section. Good Luck to all. ufla-Us iw., ,l,.i.fgg53,Q312 in fy ' .,.
