lQ5S JMOAQCLIQ Class 'Haslaw In the year of 1954 42 green freshmen stole down the halls of M H S of course we were frlght ened and scared but we seemed to make It Those f1rst few days were somethmg to remember Flrst thmg we got to know each other and then elected the offlcers to represent us Presxdent was LaVonne Oard Vice presldent Dlck McDanel Secretary and Treasurer Larry Martm On our student councll was Erxck Alden and for the Scrlbbler Staff was Shlrley Walter Our sponsors were Mrs Prxce and Mr Whnte Our mxtxatlon was really a whopper' Cant you Just see 42 green freshmen runnmg around m mghtgowns wxth green fxngernalls and toenalls a raw egg tled around our necks and an alarm clock 1n our hand Well lf you can lt was us Durlng the year we lost Erlck Alden We thought sure we had replaced hlm with Jxm Ryan but he moved on too So we ended our year wxth Just 21 In our sophomore year we were begmmng to thlnk thmgs werent too bad after all we were almost upper classmen As sophomores we elected the followmg offlcers Presldent Marlene Rmehart Vlce presldent Yvonne Gardner Secretary Gary Pfannebecker Treasurer Janie Sawvel Our student councll members were Sandy Walker and Larry Martm The sponsors were Mxss Danneman and Mr Craver Our most memorable occaslon durmg our sophomore year was the Jr Sr bansuet The waltresses and waxters were Yvonne Gardner and Gary Pfannebecker as head waltress and walter Sue Kaster Jame Sawvel LaVonne Oard Shlrley Walter Marlene Rlnehart Donna Cochran John Tarbell Jlm Glllasple B1ll O Hara Doug Morrls and Larry Martm Durmg that year we galned Elsle Aldrlch and Freddxe Helmlck and Dean Albertson thmklng we were up to 44 but that was too good to be true We lost Freddle and Elsie Just awhlle later We also lost Donna McElderry J 1m Coltraln Arthur Sxmmons and Rosemary Madlson Our Junlor offlcers were Presxdent Gary Pfannebecker V1ce presldent Donna Cochran Secre tary Dlck McDanel Treasurer Marlene Rlnehart Student councxl members were B111 Harsh Bar bara Yenger and Carol Day The sponsors were Mxss Rlnehart and Mxss Danneman The Jumor class has always 1n1t1ated the freshmen and thls year was no exceptlon We must ad mlt It was fun seemg them runnmg around wxth gunny sacks green rlbbons on thelr toes and carrylng yo yo s and worms The glrls couldn t wear make up and half of their halr was pmned up fWouldn t that be a slghtl The boys were Just as funny look1ng wlth themr pretty red llps and cheeks Oh yes we can t forget the earrlngs elther boys' We really had the work to do the second semester The Jr Sr Banquet was commg up May 10 and we were responslble for It We f1nally dec1ded on a theme Star Dust Crulse The gym was dec orated llke the deck of a shlp wlth the orchestra 'The Esquxres playmg on the stage WhlCh was dec orated as an lsland ln the dlstance During the year we lost Jlm McIlwa1n Betty Van Dorm Raymond Wltt and Howard Allen So we started the blg task of belng semors wlth 34 happy but YVl11lI1g to learn klds At last our semor year arrlved ThlS was the year we had to make one of the blggest declslons of our lives What were we gomg to do after school But before we started off on that we had other thmgs to do for lnstance elect our class offlcers who were Presldent Jim Glllaspxe Vlce presldent Sandy Walker Secretary Darlene Strlckler Treasurer Barbara Yenger Our student councll members were Yvonne Gardner B111 Harsh and Barbara Yenger Our sponsors were Mr Sheldon and Mxss Danne man Our first semester was a busy one We had the annual to get ready for press ln the spring The class d1v1ded up m groups and went to Ottumwa Albna Blakesburg Centervxlle and Moravxa to sell ads In October we went to Oskaloosa to the S, henga Studno and had our semor plctures taken We chose our class motto color and flower whlch were Motto 'Today we follow tomorrow we lead Colors Royal Blue and S1lver Flower Whlte Rose We also dec1ded to go to the Klrkwood Lodge m the Ozarks for our semor trlp on May 8 9 10 During the year we gamed Darlene Strxckler and Sherry Crowder so we graduated wlth 36 happy happy SENIORS ' Now no one knows what w1ll come next 1 ' ' '1 1 ' 1 - ' , . 1 ' , 1 ' 1 1 ' 1 1 . , , . - 1 . . - - 1 I 1 - , 1 ' 1 I 1 1 1 - 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 1 . . . , , . 1 , - 1 - ' 1 1 ' - , 1 ' 1 1 ' 1 1 1 - 1 ' 1 1 1 . , . . . , . , - . . , , . . . .' . , . . . .
