This year’s Big Blue Crew had a record of seven and two under the leadership of Captains Matt Deis, Tom Humphrey, and Brian Smith. “After our first scrimmage with Sandstone things didn’t look too good, but everyone on the team pulled together, and that same night at the Jamboree we started on our way to a real good season,” recollected Matt Deis, “Everyone on the team worked hard.” Tom Humphrey remembered, “The secret to our successful season was team play. Everyone on the team was able to get along and win together, without having three or four standouts. After losing twenty-one seniors the year before, nobody really thought we would do much, especially be ranked as one of the top teams in the state for seven weeks! “It was disappointing too, said Brain Smith, “The most disappointing was the Chicago Lakes game. We beat them on every statistic of the game except the final score. We totally outplayed them!” Despite this, he felt it was a “satisfiable season,” even though “we really had to work hard this season.” All three agreed that team spirit, school spirit, and excellent community involvement were con- tributing factors in making this the most ex- citing season in recent history. 7 What do I do now dad?
