It was time to reflect and look to the fu- ture for many of our seniors. They listened attentively as Kenneth Ames, Dean of St. Cloud State spurred them on to new horizons and as Paul Claus, the class speaker, looked at the past and furture of Mora High School, its students, and the community that supports it. Amid the tears, laughter, anxiety, and relief they said farewell to a part of their lives only to take up new battles in as many areas as there were 1975 graduates. The team remembers the year as a year without an outstanding play- er. But an outstanding team, united with a common cause in mind, and did it in spite of 4-5 win standing. For the seniors who had led the club, it left many memories of what football was about; for the team was a year of development; for the coaches a year of accomplishment and a goal fulfilled; And finally for the fans a year of fun and a chance to be proud of Mora. As the football team of '74 closes its book and enter the past, it wishes the best to those in '75. BANQUET 1 9 7 The 1974 football team ended its final meeting, Nov. 5, at the Joe D. Banquet. The banquet started the evening with a full course meal. Speeches were given and to end up the cermonial awards were given. Recolections of the year were good ones, and for those returning, hopes of another year. Back of the Year: Greg DeWitt, Bob Oehrlein. J.V. Defensive Player of the Year: Brad Telander, Dave Schaefbauer. Lineman of the Year: Russ Koch. Defensive Player of the Year: Don Spears. Most Valuable Player: Bob Oehrlein. Ed Hoffman Winning Spirit: Kurt Nietzel. CROSS COUNTRY ROW 1. B. Olson, J. Stromback, B. Hutchinson, M. Munro. ROW 2. R. Beseman, J. Jenson, G. Pearson, D. Dee, B. Anderson. The cross country team of 1974-75 consisted of 6 sophomores and 3 juniors. Since experience and age were lacking we did not have a strong team to begin the season. The first meet was a poor one and our team was easily beaten; but with experience they would even- tually defeat the teams which had earlier beaten us. Our record against area and all conference competi- tion was 12 wins against 7 defeats. This record is one to be proud of considering the lack of older ex- perienced runners on the team. The best race was obviously conference where the team placed second. In order to do this, many hours of running 3 miles across the golf course were required to condition themselves. Running against more experienced teams demands this kind of grueling dedication that finally brought them a record to be proud of. If all goes as expected, we should have a tremendous team for next year. VARSITY BASKETBALL 1975 The Mustangs ended the season with a 3-11 in confer- ence standings and an overall standing of 6-14. The team as a whole worked hard and played hard at every game throughout the season. There are three seniors who will be greatly missed next year, they are Bob Oehr- lein, Greg DeWitt, and Art Sundstrom. There are five returning lettermen so the future for the Mustangs looks good. Bob Oehrlein, Senior Co-Captain, was named to the 1974-75 Rum River All Conference Basketball team and Richard Graves, Sophomore Forward, made Honor- able Mention. Lead scorers for the Mustangs were Oehr- lein with 291 and Graves with 226. Oehrlein and Graves also were lead rebounders with 138 and 74. Greg DeWitt lead in assists with 72. Coach Rolf Kopperud Playing fine aggressive, defensive basket- ball the junior varsity ended its season with an overall record of 12 wins and 6 losses. The high points of the season were the two come from behind victories ovqr Princeton and the three point win at Cambridge. The year was very successful in that it was not a five or six man effort but rather a total team effort with each player of the squad making a major contribution. The enthusiasm and de- sire of the team was exceptional. There was a lot of personnel pride as well as school pride that was involved to make 1974-1975 a winning year for the Mora junior-varsity basketball team. The season started slowly because of the late snowfall and slop- py track. As the sun shone enthusiasm grew and the girls work harder than ever. Field events included shotput, discus, long jump and high jump, sprints and relay. The sen- iors leaving were Sue Fitzsimmons, Linda Nelson, and Joyce Folkema. Their sports- womanship and dedication to the team will be carried on in the years to come by those who follow in their great sport. Then they retired to the auditor- ium for speeches and the award presentations. The basketball coach from Augsburg College was the guest speaker and Russ Koch was the recipient of the Don Erickson Award which was pre- sented by Carl Erickson. Crown Bearer 1974 HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS w 1974 HOMECOMING HIGHLIGHTS Homecoming 1974 was a fabulous festive occation with such memorable highlights as the pie eating contest powderpuff foot- ball, the bonfire, and a tug of war in which both teams lost as the rope con- tinued to break under their enthusiastism. The coronation in which Bob Oehrlein and Mary Johnstone were crowned king and queen was held on Thursday evening. The excitement generated by the huge crowd of students and parents who attended per- vaded the scene and carried over to fol- lowing days activities. An exciting game between Milaca and Mora marked the end of another Homecoming for the mag- nificant Mustangs, and thats the way it was in 1974. FALL PRODUCTION The Fall Production Black Comedy, was done in the Little Theatre con- cept, which is both a new and different experience for both the audience and actors. The play, under the direction of Jim Revier, was done in the High School Band Room and performed six nights with reserved seating. Although it took a little rearranging. It turned out to be a great success. BLACK COMEDY” CAST OF CHARACTERS Brindsley Miller . . . . Carol Melkett........ Miss Femival .... Colonel Melkett . . . . Harold Gorringe . . . . The plot revolved a- round Washington’s designation of Dogpatch as the nation's most unnecessary town and the plan for it's atomic bomb- ing. The town puts forth a big effort to save itself, and many inner conflicts make the show a hilarious one. A special feature was the live pig, Wopina, who added a 'down-home' realism to the show. The cast the largest in MHS history, is to be congratulated for their big success! PROM ’75 YOU SENIORS DANCE ALMOST ALL NIGHT The 1975 Junior-Senior Prom You Are So Beautiful was held May 10. The evening began with a banquet at the parish center, and the theme song You Are So Beautiful was sung by Jeff Bertilson.
