Festivities continued Friday afternoon at 2:00 as everyone headed to the football field for a pepfest and pie eating contest which was followed in great style by the annual Powder Puff football game. Students and faculty alike dressed like they did in the Rock 'n Roll styles of the 1950's. During the pepfest the student body was entertained by the Appreciation a group made up of the music ap- preciation class and the pom pon girls did a rollicking routine to 'Rock 'n Robin'. All three squads of basket- ball cheerleaders did move cheers of the 50's. The spirited Mustangs showed the fans an exciting con- test by an score of 58-55. After the game, a dance was held in the old gym, with a band called Daniel . Monday, February 4, on this day many strange and un- usual hats came to the Mora High scene. That evening the Augsburg Concert Band presented a very fine concert. 26 KEEP THE SPIRIT MOVING SNODAZ1974 Tuesday, Feb. 5, Western Day, a new addition to Sno Daze at MHS. Some of the more authentic costumes were worn by Deb Robillard who appear- ed as 'Heep Good'um Squaw', and Kent Boyd a scalp hunting warrior and Miss Lee as exact rep- lica of the talented cowgirl, Annie Oakley gun and all! Wednesday, Feb. 6, Suits and ties were seen around the school, and many girls waltzed their way through the halls in long dresses. This day was considered by many to be a formal success. Thursday, Feb. 7, 2000 day had 100% participa- tion. Apparently, the majority of the student body felt they would still be wearing blue jeans in the year 2000. The broomball games on Thursday showed much participation with the girls and guys playing to- gether. The seniors overpowered the freshman 2-0. The juniors scored two goals to the sopho- mores one. Friday, Feb. 8, This was the annual 'Blue-White' day. Students were dismissed to see the one-act, and then down to the hockey rink to watch the seniors get the 'stick on' and sweep by the juniors, with a score of 2-1. Goals for the seniors were scored by Keith Smith and Cheryl Brandi. Harry Stewart scored for the juniors. At Foley, the Mustangs fans were delighted over the score the Mora Basketball players built up over the Falcons. Sno Daze '74 broke the monotony of the long wintermonths and proved to be a fun week. 27 TRACK TEAMS ROW 1-J. Stromback, S. Schulz, M. Munro, M. Schulz, B. Cox, D. Schaefbauer. ROW 2-G. Dalbey, B. They were able to place fifth in the Rum River Conference Meet and Fourteenth place in the District 16 Meet. Kevin Theis was the 1974 Captain. The team this year was able to boast a total partici- pation of 32 boys in the 1974 program. This was up 6 boys from the 1973 season and it is hoped that this type of interest will contintue to grow during the seasons to follow. Of special interest this year was the Junior-Varsity golf team which not only showed a great deal of interest in the sport but played a full round of Rum River play. They too should prove to be quite an asset in the years to come. 32 Coach Carl Deis gives out awards on award night. ATHLETIC BANQUET Charlotte and Cindy do their thing. The awards are presented to the many deserving athletes. MOOSE SHOWRON SPEAKS TO ATHLETES The annual Mustang Athletic Banquet was held on Monday the sixth of May at Mora High School. All athletes in grades 9 through 12, boys and girls, as well as senior pom pons and cheerleaders were invited. The program began at 6:00 pm in the auditorium with two short films, Gopher Highlites and Sports snafus. After the films, everyone retired to the cafeteria for the banquet dinner and later returned back to the auditorium for the awards ceremony. Mr. Lutz then intro- duced all the junior varsity, junior high and elementary coaches plus the cheer- leading and pom pon advisors. Captains for the 1974-1975 season were announced and senior players received plaques with their accomplishments on it. The Don Ericksen Award candidates were the last to be announced and presented. Entertainment was provided by Charlotte Remer and Cindy Van Driel. The evening was rounded out by the guest speaker, Moose Showron who played professional football for 17 years and had many interesting experiences to relate. Morris Eastlaund, Mora's Commercial Club president, ended the evening with a few remarks and another successful ath- letic banquet was over. PROM 1974: MAKE And the band played on... 'Let me entertain you... Are you sure that's our son, Ma? MAKE ME SMILE The 1974 prom was centered around the theme Make Me Smile and with a variety of entertainment the Junior class did just that for the Seniors and themselves. The evening began with a banquet at the parish center and a serenade by the John Paulson Trio. The reading of the Senior Class Will by Melanie and Paul followed and the even- ing was culminated by a few humorous lines from the hosts of the year, John Fisher and Rod Cassmen. After the banquet, festivities continued with a dance in the lower level as the band. Magnum, added their own bit of flavor to this memorable evening. As the toes grew tired and legs weary the group of MHS students wound their way down to the local theater for a more relaxing form of enter- tainment and they viewed the film West- world. With that the 1974 prom, like all others, became only a memory. Your turn, Melanie, I'm tired. 35 1974 SKIP DAY Streak!!??'.! 'Hey, Deb's makin' eyes at me! The Senior class party and skip day began EARLY (like about 2:00 a. m.) with festive decorations on certain administrators homes, but the of- ficial start was 8:45 Friday morning when two buses, carrying about 110 tired Seniors and four eager chaperones (Carl Hellzen Margaret Hellzen and Keith Lester Sue Lester) to Shingwauk Resort near Atkin, Mn. After a long hour and a half ride northward, they finally arrived at the resort. The first thing to be done was to assign cabins--where many stayed for the rest of the day. Then the students were free to do what they wanted to. They could choose from such things as volley ball, tennis, boating, croquet, or hanging-out in the rec hall for such things as ping-pong, pool and foos ball. Even though it was a cold day, many daring Seniors went water skiing and swimming. Some even went swimming in their clothes- not by their own choice, however. At 7:00 Torque ended the festivities with a dance until 10:00. Members in the band were Jeff Bertilson, Rog Nieboer, Vince Anderson, Leighton Wilkening and Brian Krawecki. At about 11:30, all the still-tired Seniors Memories... Memories... and not so eager chaperones arrived back at Mora to put an end to Skip Day 1974. AT SHINGWAUK Come 'n get me What??!!??
