Stage Brigadoon The actors were well matched to the characters they portrayed. Don Olson did an excellent job of portraying Tommy, a love sick young man. Mary Jo Manthei proved to be the perfect leading lady as she enchanted the aud- ience under her spell. Steve Hartland fit his part as Jeff most naturally, and many of his sly remarks seemed al- most to be ad-libbed. Mary McCarty was a most convincing flirtatious Meg. Even the Scottish highland fling was done in good taste considering that it is not done to one of our modern day beats. The speaking could have been louder at times and a pause or two taken dur- ing the applause of the audience. How- ever, I think the musical as one of the better ones presented by M. H. S. and only hope that those in the future are done as well. 17

Lads And Lassies According to the applause of the student body and the comments to be heard afterward, I would venture to say that the May 1st presentation of BRIGADOON was a de- finite success. The story itself seemed to hit on all the basic em- otions, and, if I may say so, I believe it touched the hearts of many a bonnie young lass in the audience. As the misty atmosphere of BRIGADOON vanished, only the soggy kleenexes remained as a reminder of the fan- tasy. The scenery showed that a lot of hard work had been put into it, and the forest in the Scottish highlands ap- peared almost lifelike. The costumes set the mood and the accents, on the whole, would be a credit to the Scots, though one or two left a wee bit to be desired. 16

‘Somewhere Over An evening to the theme of ' Somewhere Over the Rainbow had its beginning May 28 at 8:00 as 46 couples turned out in their best duds and took part in this year’s Grand March. As each couple went through the steps, Mr. and Mrs. Jack Sahlstrom chose the king and queen to reign over the evening’s festivities. Debbie Eastlund and Greg Yank- owiak received the honor this year and the march was brought to an end as they led the remaining participants up and out of the audi- torium to the dance. 18
