Dedication We, the Mustang Staff of 1965-66 are deviating from previous traditions of dedication and are honoring a group of men and women in lieu of one individ- ual. The group, known as the English Department, has, in past years, grown in scope and quality to an unprecedented height. What has the English Depart- ment done to merit this dedication? Daily, 24 sections of English are taught from grades 7-12. Pre-college English in grades 10-12 has been developed to help those students who plan to attend college. Besides normal class material, the extensive use of research and paperback material has been employed to broaden and deepen the students' practical application of literature. This has all been made possible by the es- tablishment of an English curriculum which serves the students' needs. But the teaching of grammar and literature has been only one facet of the English Department's curriculum program. The English Department has di- rected debate, declamation, radio programs, created a student literary maga- zine entitled ALPHA- judged by college professors- and has been instrumental in the development of musical dramatics. Many plays by such playwrights as Miller, Albee, Shakespeare, Moleine, and Thurber were virtually unknown un- til exposed to students by department personnel. The school publications have increased in both size and quality with learning programs related to publica- tions initiated. Yet, perhaps, the greatest attribute the English Department could be given, is in the number of Mora High School graduates who have gone on in college to major in the Language Arts and related areas. We thank you for a job well done. 4

Don placing the crown on Nancy's head. Procession to stage At 8:00 P.M., October 7, 1965, 1964’s Home- coming Queen Cheryl Smith, escorted by Student Council President, Louis Frykman, led the proces- sion of four escorted homecoming candidates down the steps to the strains of a piano march playedbyBill Fisher. Mr. Jeff Saari served as Master of Ceremonies. Autumn Leaves , also the theme of the coronation, was sung by Connie Ericksen and Jim Trupe sang the traditional Blue Velvet as Queen Nancy ascended her throne. After the coronation, everyone rushed out to a huge bonfire pre- pared by the sophomores, a pep fest, and snake dance. Homecoming was off to a great start. 6
