Both made numerous speaking en gagements during the year. Under the auspices of the American Field Service, Alex Buergin, a senior boy from Switzerland, studied at Moorhead l-ligh School during I959-60. Alex lived with the Paul Horn family and attended regular classes with the class of '6O. ln addition to class- work, Alex participated in many extra-curricular activities, as would any other high school senior. Switzerland was the temporary home ot Larry Brown, who spent the summer of I959 as a Field Service exchange student. Exchanges such as this are the principal service ot the agency. A deeper understanding of other people and a cultural exchange on the level ot the young adult are the aims ot American Field Service. Drying dishes was one of the daily household tasks our Swiss visitor Alex practiced his beloved clarinet at his foster home in performed in the home of his Moorhead. American parents. 23 ix Q an S i. l i g- i Alex received his diploma at Concordia Fieldhouse on June 2, as did his adopted brother, Paul Horn. Here Alex poses with his temporary family, Mrs. Paul Horn, Skip, Kathy, and Mr. Paul Horn, Sr. You cannot knock the Euro- pean out of a boy, Alex clung fa the bicycle as a mode of school-to-home transportation. Along with relief, however, there was an unauenchable cu'iosity about tne hnshed prod- uct. It seems amazing that out ot the clutter and disor- ganization ot the iournalism lab can come a tull account ot an entire year's activites Tnis would have been im. possible without the cooperation ot the willing help we received. Business Manager Jean Axdahl was responsible tor selling the 550 annuals besides organizing various other financial proiects during the year. The Frst deadline was met by class editors Pat, Marlys, and Claudia, and Beth, faculty editor, after many hours ot running down pictures and matching names with taces. Pat also set up music pictures and helped with last minute copy. The sports section can be attributed to Julie Brown, who worked up until the last day on her prize page, the big The days on which activity pictures were taken were organized and seen through by activities editors Karen and Cookie. Jackie did typing tor the classes and the senior direc- tory, which was compiled by Mary l-linz. Production would have been impossible without the marvelous work ot Harold Bennett. The attendance of him and his camera at all school events plus the hours he spent in the darkroom, never satisfied with anything but the best, produced some ot the finest school photog- raphy that Moorhead High has ever seen. The memories page was written by co-editor Dianna and background artwork was contributed by Cookie. Planning and general layouts are attributed to co- editor Kristi. The last deadline was met by copywriters Mary, Pat, and Dianna, copyreader Mr. Shuck, hnal layout experts Mary Brooks and Marilyn Rindal, and coordinator Kristi. Our thanks also goes to the three Moorhead studios and especially to Ham Gillespie, who patiently worked along with the editors. We also give special recognition to Mike Kerper for the sharp, Peter Gunn-type division pages. Working with Mr. Kerper, our own Mr. Hahn supplied the layout plans together with the cover design. Lastly we thank the senior class, the taculty, and especially our principal Mr. Knatturud, Mr. Larson, Cleo, and the custodians for their cooperation with our after- school-hours work. We're done now and we hope it's what you want.
