B. Meland, Clerlcg Bohlander, Superintendent Baath uf ftlillunatinn The Moorhead City Schools with more than 1,300 students is the largest single enterprise in the city. Not only is it more far-reaching in its effects on citizenship but it also has more capital invested in it than any of our industries. Our school system is controlled by the Board of Education consisting of six members with the Superintendent of Schools as the manager. Their duties are manyg among which is the election of teachers, the fixing of salaries, the construction and care of buildings, the purchasing and installation of modern equipment necessary for the best edu- cational work. For membership on the board of education there are many requirements. Some of these are: They must be good business men of line character, they must have broad sympathies and an understanding of needs of modern education. Our board is composed of such men who give freely of their time and efforts to efficiently manage the Moorhead schools. We. the Senior Class, realize the importance of the work done by the board of education and want to express our appreciation of what they have done for us.

To the Members of the Senior Class: My first word to you through the medium of the Cho-Kio is a word of appreciation- appreciation of the splendid spirit of loyalty and co-operation which you have shown ever since you entered the High School. I have had occasion many times to commend this spirit and to express to others my recognition of it. It has been a delight to work with youg to fall in with your motives, your aims, your ideals: to help to realize some of your dreams and aspirations. My next word is a word of encouragement. As a result of your training, if you have made the best of it, you will be among the leaders of your respective communities, you will be a source of encouragement to othersg an inspiration to your friends, and an honor to your country. Your future should be full of hope and courage. You should move steadily forward doing the right as you see the right. You should meet the discouragements of life bravely and courageously and above all should ever give to your country the best there is in you. My final word is a word of exhortationfa call to service, not service to your school, but service to yourselves, a careful, honest, self-accounting, a detailed measurement of your possibilities: a reckoning of cost, and time and power: and then a positive determination to make every dollar, every moment, every effort count in the accomplishment of a serious purpose and the building of a noble character. To this end I pledge you my heartiest co-operation and support. J. BOHLANDER, Ph.lVl. Northwestern College.
