HISTORY For ages, it seems, we have been looking forward to the time when our school days would be recorded in the history of Mooreville School. We shall always cherish fondly the memories of our old school days, for there are things stamped in our minds that time cannot erase. Most of us started to school in 1936. We have eleven members who started at Mooreville--Onis Mitchell, Lenore Burcham, Dot West- moreland, Burma Price, June Umfress, Bobbie Leslie, .Timmy Hussey, Varnell Caygle, Ernest Bedford, Lowery Tackett, and Odie Vee White. There were two beginner classes with Mrs. Hare and Mrs. Baker as teachers. Miss Ruth Hussey was our first grade teacher and Mrs. Ethel Lind- ley taught us in second grade. Mrs. Tennie Elliott taught the third grade. A great misfortune happened that year--the school house burned and we had to have school in the Methodist Church. Mrs. Aaron Morgan was our fourth grade teacher and we went on to fifth grade with Mrs. Ben Stalling and Mr. .Tames Cates as teachers. From there, Mrs. Corrine Riley took us through sixth grade. Our seventh grade year was a new experience, for we then moved to the study hall. The eighth year was also important to us because we were awarded our Grammer School certificates by Mr. Aaron Morgan. As we entered high school with many members lost and others gained in the class, Mr. R. E. Whiteside sponsored us as freshmen,, and Mrs. Aaron Morgan sponsored our sophomore class. The Junior year brought happiness to all of us because we received our class rings. Thatwas also the year of our Junior-Senior banquet at Jeff-Davis Hotel which was sponsored by Miss Ruth Martin. Before we could realize it, we were Seniors. We started with nine- teen members and still have all of them. Under the direction of our sponsor, Mrs. Box, we presented our senior play, Little Miss Somebody. We leave behind us our sincere hope and best wishes as we pull the curtain and leave the stage to our underclassmen. SENIOR CLASS PROP HEC Y MOOREVILLE'S ANNUAL HOMECOMING DAY CELEBRATION I guess'th'5 old class of '49 is sorta surprised seeing how Mooreville has grown since they left. Seeing all these sky-scrapers and street cars sorta scared them. By the way, Mooreville has also spread out east about two miles. Right within the city limits there is a wonderful night spot owned by Lowery Tackett. It is still fenced in, too, but witha much nicer fence. Oh, yes! And on the inside they have awonderful floor show fea- turing their dainty ballerina, June Umfress and their night club canary, Varnell Caygle. Last week they had two very distinguished guests. They were Emogene Rayburn and Carnie Grimes from Hollywood who took Betty Grable and Alan Ladd's place when they retired. Yes, they are really an exciting team. We are sorry to say that Superintendent and Mrs. Jimmy Hussey couldn't be present. You see, since it has rained so much this past week, they couldn't make it as they are teaching at Houston now. BurmaPrice, who still isn't married, but hasn't given up, is their most loyal and ef- ficient teacher. She isn't here either as you can see. It is a greathonor to have Reverend Fred Leslie. Asmany marriages as he has performed, he is just now getting around to it himself. Of course, she is none other than Odie Vee White. They plan to be married in June. There is going to be a great show in town at the fair grounds next week. I think it will be proper to announce it here because its star will be a member of the old class. Yes, that riding queen Freck Westmore- land, will do her top performance in Rodeo on Parade . She will be riding the grand champion horse which she trained. We are indeed glad to have James Davis here tonight. He flew down from New York just for this occasion. He had to leave right in the middle of one of his best cases. He is a very prominent lawyer. Well, there sits Verna Jean and she has her little boy with her. Isn't he cute with those big brown eyes and black hair parted in the middle? Well, no wonder! Lookwhat agood looking daddy he has! I'll bet Charles Elliott is proud of his wife and son, too. Another romance has blossomed to its peak and Lenore and Madison finally broke down and got married. They really make a nice looking couple. Both are on the serious side of life. I'm sure they will make out just fine. Vernell Mills is really staying by that telepho'ne. Wonder if she will wait for that Parker boy to call her or if she calls him. She hasn't given up yet. Johnny Blanchard is determined to spend all his time being an admiral in the Navy. Oh well, Bobbie spends her time teaching her little boys to sing Anchors Aweigh. Girls, beware! I hear Ernest Bedford is on the loose again. He is just back from Reno. That is just his fifth so he is already looking for another--wife, that is! Well, we will have to quit because it is time for the Grand Ole Oprie . Onis Mitchell has run Minnie Pearl out of business.. Wm who aw KB OUR SENIORS AS YOU ONCE KNEW THEM SENIOR CLASS WILL We, the Senior Class of the High School of Mooreville, County of Lee, and State of Mississippi, being of full age and sound mind and memory, do make, publish, and declare this to be our Last Will and Testament, hereby revoking and annulling any and all Will or Wills by us heretofore made. Varnell Caygle bequeaths her patience and good nature to Betty Jean Phillips. June Umfress leaves her ability to study to Martha Priddy. Bruma Price leaves her letter-writing to Jeanette Irvin. Verna Jean McKinney leaves her Fancy Free Heart to Marjorie Sheffield, also her giggles. Onis and Lenore leave their ability to flirt to Mary Nell Powell. Jimmy Hussey and Carnie Grimes leave their behavior in class to Tom Westmoreland, although he doesn't need it. Kathleen Hussey wills her experience in basketball to Jewel Smith. Vernell Mills leaves her dignity to Ella Wayne Parker. Emogene Rayburn leaves her ability to keep short and thin to Betty Jo Duncan. Dot Westmoreland wills her soft singing voice to Helen. Fred Leslie's bashfulness goes to Wendell McKinney. Ernest Bedford leaves his wise cracks to John A. Priddy. James Davis gives his blushing to Bobby Parham. Madison Shumpert gives his Popularity around the girls to Joe Dickerson. Bobbie Blanchard leaves her good sportsmanship to Bobbie Jean Smith. Lowery Tackett donates his determination to Tommy Franks. Odie Vee White leaves her knowledge to Bobbie Miller. To the members of the Faculty, we give many happy years at Moore- ville for those gray hairs we have caused them to bear. To the Juniors, we give our dignity and ability to study. To the Sophomores, we leave our ability to behave. The Senior Class is very happy to leave the Freshmen another three years at Mooreville. In witness hereof, we, the class of 1949 have hereunto setour hands and heads to this, our Last Will and Testament, and do seal this document at Mooreville High School this twenty-second day of April, in the year of our Lord, One thousand, nine hundred and forty-nine.
