Our uperinfenclenf Seniors! The day of your graduation is rapidly approaching. To you it will mark a major milestone along life's pathway. To mod- ern civilization your generation has a respon- sibility equaled by none in history. After cen- turies of what we call progress, world affairs are in the greatest muddle of all times. You will be going out into an entangled state of human affairs. We are relying upon you to help solve many of the problems which have come about through no fault of yours. Many of you, I know. are planning addi- tional training after leaving high school. The rest of you will be plunging immediately into the pool of new responsibilities. Regardless. never lose sight of an old truth, Education starts with the cradle and ends at the grave. As you study for future possibilities there should be something to constantly remind you that people in general look wistfully at that talent which belongs to someone else. Don't let wishfulness for the talents others cause you to overlook your own. Do those things which you can do well whatever they may be. I-'ind the one which satisfies your mind and brings the greatest inspiration to you whether it be technical work or a simple living. When it has been found. hold on to it and cultivate it until it is your slave. Many successful people have tried their hands at more than one thing. lf you should find that you cannot be satisfied with your first choice, make a change. In making your second choice use the pitfalls of your first to make your second a greater success. Humanity has traveled an endless road from the very beginning which can be reached forward through history. First, very slow on foot. then on muleback. Then by rude carts, and then better carts drawn by horses. Then clumsy motors on lighter vehicles and finally motors so powerful and vehicles so light that with wings they leave the ground fly through the air faster than sound. So go forth SENIORS OF MOORESVILLE into this fast moving world of 1949 and make your path to add to the road of civilization extending forward into the future. Dale E. Brock O ' ' As another class of graduates emerges from Mooresville High School, we ur prlnclfoa are again reminded that time moves swiftly. Only a few short years ago the Class of 1949 was entering upon the first year of its formal education. Between that time and now, many precious moments have elapsed. It is my hope that none of them have been wasted. but that each one has contributed something toward making you a better individual, or toward making the world a better place in which to live. Life consists of moments. not years. Mo- ments are all that we're sure of. Time is ever- lasting, but you and I have only a tiny bit of it. lf we would accomplish something. we must do so quickly. Moments are life's jewels, so precious and so very scarce. We dare not waste them: we need to use everyone of them in building our lives. And while we are busy building a life. let's try to end each day with a little friendship, or music, or study, or fun. or family sentiment, or prayer. Never a day without a laugh, except when sorrow comes. Never a day without a book. Never a day without a friend. Never a day without God. In this way we will be sure to find peace of mind and the end of a perfect day . O. H. Finke.
