4 e following year found fifty students still enrolled, with the following officers becoming real leaders: Curtis Wilcher, president: Mary Ann Sellars, vice-pifgsident: Iris Keltner, secretary-treasurer: Kathleen Crutchfield, historian: and Mike Forester and Gertrude Gunnell, junior representatives on the stu- dent council. As we had become upper classmen now, we were taking on more and more responsibility. The noon hours and football and basketball games kept us busy selling popcorn, hot dogs, soda pop, and other refresh- ments. The stage-minded members of our class demonstrated their dramatic ability in a three-act comedy entitled A Little Honey. The last semester was spent in preparation for the junior-senior prom and reception. We were busy decorating, listening to bands, preparing menus, and attending to all the other details connected with this pleasant occasion, not the least of which was the crowning of the Prom Queen, Maxine Park. In the fall of 1948, forty-four members of our original freshman group entered their year of distinction, the senior year. Our first act was one of revenge -the initiation of the freshmen-the occasion for which we had been waiting for three years. Much to the chagrin of the freshmen, we summoned up all the ingenuity and mischievousness in us in planning an initiation that equaled and perhaps excelled our own in halarious nonsense. Climaxing this two-day ordeal was a party in honor of the new full-fledged scholars. As leaders in this most important year of our high school career, we chose: Robert Madge, president: Mary Ann Sellars, vice-president: Betty lean Modlin, secretary-treasurer: Mary Lou Varner, historian: and Mike Forester and Rosemary Van Hoy, senior mem- bers of the student council. Mr. Truax and Miss Dailey were our sponsors. As one of the many activities of this busy year we sponsored dances after football and basketball games, including a gala Halloween dance. In preparation for graduation we spent much time in selecting commencement invitations, having our pictures taken, and organizing and publishing our annual. Several mem- bers of the class attended College Day at Martinsville High School. The senior class, along with the junior class, took a trip to Indianapolis and visited the State Legislature and other places of interest. It was our pleasure this year as seniors to be feted by the juniors at the senior reception. Memories of the banquet and prom will linger long in our memories. With mixed emotions we all looked forward to the final scene that was to find the curtain falling on our high school career-on four full years holding memories of pleasant associations and good times and of studies which had awakened our minds to the ways of wise and fruitful living.
