J., underthe actof March 3, 1879 Page Four The members of the class of nineteen hundred thirty-nine dedicate this book to their good friends, the Alumni of Moorestown High School, and especially to one alumnus, t JOE BURK whosefne character and thrilling athletic achievements have brought us so much jog, honor, and inspiration. ICE BURK, '50 PgF Page Six FCREWORD HAT a sweet nostalgia grips many of our alumni when they think of their alma mater is evidenced frequently and variously. One reflection of this spirit is found in certain remarks so oft-repeated that they might well be termed alumni cliches. Among them are: How's everything at M. H. S.? I wish I were still there. I haven't had so much fun since I graduated. How has the school changed? I bet I wouldn't recog- nize it. It wasn't 'till I went to college that I realized how much I had benefited from Moorestown High. I hear you have still more courses and activities now. It is for you alumni of Moorestown High School that we are publishing this almost week-by-week story of the past school year in the hope that it will refresh your memories of bygone days and acquaint you with the recent happenings of Moorestown High School. Colleges are ill-equipped to make over students after they are graduated from high school. Too much emphasis cannot be placed On the activities of the high school and the habits formed by them. Difficulties in college invariably go back to what a student has done or has failed to do in high school. DEAN ROBERT C. DISQUE, Drexel Institute, October 8, 1958. Xvhile the pierrot ofthe stage has appeared with many variations of type, he is usually conceived as a symbol of all phases of romantic youth. Pierrot's enduring characteristics are his youth, his loveableness, his moods that are in turn gay and melancholy, and his loose white costume. Pierrette came into being no earlier than the eigh- teenth century. She is always represented as home- keeping, loving, and longing for Pierrot's love. She always wears the typical ballet costume. She typifies the Love that finds joy in service to the beloved. ACT I. Morning ACT II. Noon ACT III. Afternoon A painter named Christopher Bean had died in a New England village, leaving only a few dirty canvases to pay the doctor for his effort to heal. It was a mild sur- prise to Doctor Haggett and his family when an old friend of Bean's dropped in and paid Bean's old bill, and only took away a couple of pictures as mementoes. It was a bigger surprise when another old friend of Bean's turned up on a similar errand, and the biggest of all when a great New York art critic arrived to pay his respects to the memory of the dead artist. It was overwhelming when they learned that Christopher's daubs were worth a fortune. A mad scramble ensues. The Haggetts become hard, selfish, and ill-tempered, and it is Abby who ultimately holds them all in her power. Throughout the turmoil of the action there is always the lovable simplicity of Abby, to whom Chris- topher was an unmercenary memory of distant happi- ness. COMMITTEES STAGING ......... . .... TO IACK WALDIS Much of the financial success of the Nutrhett and the Yearbook has been due to the diligence and super salesmanship of lack Waldis. He has shown us all not only that it can be done but how superlatively it can be done. Kipling has said, If you can till the unforgiving minute with sixty seconds' worth of distance run, yours is the earth and everything that's in it.
