I w ? '- i l . To the Class of l954 As long as one hundred years ago Herbert Spencer, the great English philos- opher, wrote, Education bas for its object the formation of character. He had a great concern that the progress in science be accompanied by corresponding gains in things of the spirit. Our problem is many times greater today because science has brought the world closer together and invented terrible means of destruction. The behavior of the individual is of great importance, and behavior is dependent on character. We must have education that will develop integrity and en- courage wise evaluation of events and experiences. We must think in terms of world brotherhood and unselfishness if our civilization is to survive. Moorestown Friends' School believes that religion is the real basis of character. In our many common experiences we have tried to put spiri- tual values first. Alexander Pope said: 'Tis education forms the common mind: just as tbe twig is bent, the tree's inclined. May you continue to grow and to think always in terms of God's will for you. A verse from Proverbs is a summary of my message: In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make straigbt your paths.
