ASSISTANT SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE You are maturing into womanhood and manhood in one of the most excit- ing and, at the same time, frightening periods in history. It is an exciting period due to a veritable explosion of knowledge and invention. It is a fright- ening era because man has created instruments of destruction that can literally devastate humanity. Our task, then, as American citizens is to so improve ourselves, our drives, our interests, our values, so that the result will be the using of the marvelous discoveries of science, technology, social science, mathematics, and psychol- ogy to create a brave new world in which strife, discord, and destruction will succumb to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Assistant Superintendent Dr. L. V. McNamee

SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE The program of learning that you have followed for the past twelve years has been prepared and arranged to provide practice and study for the changing years that lie ahead ofyou. Not only have you been provided with a working knowl- edge of many of the basic skills, but also you have been given a general pic- ture of what your place may be in the modern world that you hope to help im- prove. It is my belief that you will accept tomorrow's challenge and by your ef- forts cause all things to prosper in America. Avery R. Downing Superintendent

PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE The 1963 Lion is a very distinguished successor to the yearbooks which have been developed by other senior classes. It is full ofthe happenings which have taken place during the past year. It will bring to mind the many pleasant mem- ories. It will also remind us of some sad occasions. The Editor-in-Chief and his staff as well as the advisors are to be com- mended for producing such an excellent book. It is well-planned and it car- ries the message which is so beautifully portrayed in the theme, Fishing for Prosperity, This class as well as the whole school can join in the full realization of such a motto. Congratulations are extended to all who have worked to make this year- book the great success that it is. The administration, parents, the members of the faculty, members of the senior class, and the entire student body are to be commended. J. I. Wilson Principal
