Clarence Miller CQHERE are three people who have made our dreams for Moon High their dreams and have lent their strength and know-how to contribute to the success we have already realized. Mr. Clarence Miller has headed the Moon bus sys- tem for more than thirty years. Throughout this time l he has done a superb job and again this year has han- dled the almost impossible task when he was called upon to transport three shifts of high school students in ,f f addition to the usual grade school loads. His ready smile and interest in every student's welfare have earned for him this belated but no less sincere accolade. Our dreams for better health rest on the shoulders of our doctor and dentist. Dr. Maratta and Dr. Schechter are forever busy with many Moon students. Dr. Maratta, our school doctor, not only has con- ducted routine physical examinations but he also has served as attending physician at all games. Dr. Schechter, as school dentist, works throughout the school system discovering those cavities and sav- ing us from the pains of toothaches. Dr. Ellis Schechter JOE WORKMAN'S DEPT. However, although their work may become easier, we're sure the quality of the food cannot be improved upon, for these ladies have been serving meals that have made Moon's cafeteria the envy of those not privileged to partake of our wonderful fare. Mr. Ed Born Cooks and Cusfodians MR. Born and Mr. Rebuelta with Mr. Gittins, who joined the custodial staff too late to be pictured here, must dream of our future building where their chores will certainly be easier to accomplish. MOON Z0-BEAVER 13 - Deyton sprinted Q yards and crossed the Beaver goal in the echo of the final gun to give the Tigers a decisive victory over the Bobcats' powerful single wing. MOON O-HOPEWELL 31 - The Vikings burned the Moon gridiron with a volley of red hot aerials and sent our boys scurrying to the locker room in defeat. MOON 2-CARNEGIE 39 - A huge undefeated Carnegie eleven swarmed through the dogged Tigers in the first clash of league competition. MOON 0-SEWICKLEY 31 - The boys across the river joined in on the fun and ran roughshod over a deflated Tiger squad. MOON 0-CORAOPOLIS Z7 - The bitter rivals trounced the Tigers and redeemed themselves for the two previous losses handed them by Moon. MOON 6-NEVILLE 36 - The greatest 'Island' team in history invaded Moon's shattered varsity and often powered their way to pay dirt. MOON 13-GLASSPORT 56 - The Tigers saw some daylight with two T. D.'s but couldn't withstand the air attack that Ronnie aided the Gladiators to propel up and down the field to an overwhelming victory. MOON 0-BRIDGEVILLE 42 - The grand finale fell heavily on the Tigers as their sweat-streaked bodies trotted toward the shower room after suffering their last defeat. 'Duffy A Duffy's down but not out! Center Johnson N . f , ' I , L SEASON HE Moon Tigers found competition in section 22 to be plenty rugged as their opponents ' bounced them around most of the season. However, near the end ofthe season the Tigers got out of their slump with two consecutive victories which were enough to move them up out of the cellar into seventh place. Nevertheless, the varsity often times supplied much excitement as they battled their opponents to the final buzzer only to lose by a slim margin. SENIORS HE senior players dreamed of winning most of their games but found difficulty along the way. However these boys playing their last season for Moon gave a good accounting of themselves. Andy Balogh, Moon's scoring star, paced the Tigers with 289 points. Jim Mushalansky scored 204 points while Bill Campbell came a close third with 203 points. Moon's play maker, Sam Kelley, hit for 161 while the other seniors, Alfred Holst and Dean Whiteman added 71 and 15 points respectively. CHEERLEADERS F cheering had produced wins, Moon would have been a shoo- in, in both basketball and footballg for our senior cheerleaders led a squad that took second place to no wan H750 other group. A second project was the writing ofa letter which contained school news and which was duplicated and sent to alumni mem- bers inthe armed services and incolleges. They also made a backdrop with the society emblem to be used in induction ceremonies. Several social affairs were in- cluded in the calendar of activities . The crowning event was the tapping service on Feb- ruary IZ when the five old members inducted nine fellow seniors and five juniors chosen by faculty vote on the bases ofcharacter, service, leadership and scholar- ship. At the thought of the future, we immediately began to wonder whether we were fully prepared to hurdle the obstacles of the future which would loom before us. But our thoughts were quickly settled when we recalled the task of selecting a specialized course in ninth grade from a variety of courses offered to us. And we were, in this way, pr'eparing for the future, unconsciously building our characters and personalities by taking part in the athletics, extra-curricular activities, and social functions in which we could participate. In these two ways we were preparing for our futures. Some of us would enter higher education in colleges and universities, while some of us would take jobs in local companies. We could confidently say that we are ably prepared for the future by successfully bringing to an end our high school careers.
