Studen Develop The Power in Patience I sit in her office on the couch, relieved of the pressure of some of the deep dark secrets of my past. The question comes abruptly, IlCan I hug you? I nod yes as she comes over and throws her arms around me. The tears of relief and an- swered prayer course down my cheeks in what seems to be an unending stream. She says nothing as I cry tears that should have been cried almost eight years ago. She doesn't care that lim soaking her, she waits patiently for me to be able to stop on my own. Exhausted and red-eyed I look up at her, noticing the tears of empathy on her own face. Handing me a Kleenex, she says, l'How do you feel? IlBetter, I reply and turn to blow my nose. l'After all these years, I thought I'd forgotten how to cry! We laugh a little as a sense of finality of what has been healed begins to set in and rejoice to- gether over a victory that has been hard won. Counseling is never easy, and the answers are even harder to come by. In Student Development, a tough goal to 'lPresent every man complete in Christ iCoI. 11283 has been set as the guiding principle. Patience is what marks the department most notably. Student Development is a multifaceted part of this school, dealing with almost anything with which a student needs help, from a case of the flu to a memory that still hurts after many years to roommate hassles and hangups, a listening ear is available and practical advice lor a bed in Health Servicel is free. -A student who's been there

Systematic Theology and Related Topics Sitting down on the table after calling roll, he pulls the podium to him, crosses his arms and hunches over it. Giving us a look that is a mixture of amusement and serious thought, he throws out the question. What is thankfulness? Have you ever really thought about it at all? Anyone have any ideas? Not the typical eight in the morning, Systematic The- ology 305, soteriological debate, but none of Dr. Foos'- classes could be described as typical. His style of teach- ing produces thought in his students. His grading scale produces fear, But his person produces respect for the man who is unafraid to stray from the ordinary and who is not locked into a predictable Uwe have to stick to the schedule format. What is an attitude of thankfulness? What gets in our way? llBitterness, the very root of ungratefulness and our own human nature get ln the way, comes the reply, after we finally see what Dr. Foos is driving at. Thanks for being you, Dr. Foos, for making your stu- dents think and breaking out of the same, everyday class routine.
