Faculty Dr. Thrasher: 'lDear Mom . . . Lau He Woos Wisdom His favorite words were: 'Ask God for wisdom . . . go to Him . . . seek Him for the answers. When I said, 'lHow can God expect us to love our fallible, selfish, unlovable brother when it's so much easier to love God who is all goodness and kindness? He said, Yes it's true is it not? Turn to God, ask Him to show you what He means. When l said, Even discipline can become a bondage, can't it? He nodded his head in abso- lute agreement and said, uYes. And we need to find that balance, to know the freedom God wants you to have. Sometimes we carry a burden God never intends us to carry we need to walk in the light, walk in the light . . . When I thought, 'lHow is it some are chosen and others are not? He said, l'We sometimes de- feat the purpose of God's revelation when we try to understand what we cannot understand. Our response to being chosen should be one of humil- ity, a confidence in the Lord and we should be motivated to live godly lives. Dr. Thrasher never quite gave me the neat answers I wanted. Below: Dr, Widder A Hip Dude Who is this man who enjoys water sports, collects pencils and seems to appreciate relaxed students in his classes? My fellow students describe him as bright and cheery, a good family man, practical and a hip dude. Dr. Widder, Chairman of the Christian Education Depart- ment, an enthusiastic teacher of liMarriage and Family and advisor, has always impressed me with his deep and visible commitment to his family. As teacher, he gears his classes towards giving informa- tion that we can test and apply. Whether in class or in his office, I have never felt intimidated, his personal interest in me and his smile set me at ease. He talks about his person- al and family life often, at such times, l entertain thoughts of Uadoptingu him as my father and learning the finer points of leadership in the home from him. One Friday night I met him and his family at a local restaurant. My impressions of him were then confirmed, and I knew he was 'for real.
